MOT in Vaud

Does anyone know the MOT requirements in Vaud? When are the tests required? Can you get a MOT before one it due?

For ordinary passenger cars, from 1 February of this year the requirements were changed to:

1st inspection: 5 years (max 6) after the first "mise en circulation".
2nd inspection: 3 years after that.
Subsequent inspections: Every 2 years.
In practice, the authorities are usually running behind schedule, and the interval may be well over 2 years.

There is no problem about requesting an inspection before it is called for.

Re: MOT in Vaud

Isn't it also true that you need to have it done on first registration?

If that is the case, even with the same owner, they will give you a date for the inspection right away and it will be in about a months time.

You think a new car needs M.O.T?

If you buy a car from somebody you don't have to do a m.o.t if the one on it is still valid. People just like to have it done for a minimal bit of safety, which is actually is more psychologically as m.o.t is no guaranty that the car is good.

It's only ever not valid if you've failed to bring it in when requested, or failed twice.

My personal record is being called in 14 years after first registration, and several times ten years.

Which reminds me, it will soon (January) be ten years on another

Re: MOT in Vaud

For the first registration of a new car, the inspection is done by the garage that sold it, not by the SAN. If you are doing the registration yourself, the garage has to give you the signed document that the first inspection has been done, which you have to present to the SAN when you register the car.

For the first registration in your name of a car that is already in service with another owner, a new inspection is required if the last one was more than 12 months earlier.

In Canton Vaud the garage supplying the new car has to inspect it and complete a 13.20A "Rapport d'Expertise". You can't register the new car with the SAN unless you present this signed form to them.

There is

Art. 13 SVG https://www.admin.ch/opc/it/classifi...index.html#a13 Link to Italian version for you

Because it is a total stupidity and a waste of resource to check each and every new car at the StVA/SAN there exist Form 13.20A https://www.pom.be.ch/pom/de/index/s...kupplung_d.pdf dealers are granted the right to do the very first inspection of type approved vehicles themselves.

See also Art. 75 VZV https://www.admin.ch/opc/it/classifi...index.html#a75
and Art. 32 VTS https://www.admin.ch/opc/it/classifi...index.html#a32

Re: MOT in Vaud

The only time I had a 13.20A was when I personally imported a new vehicle, the two new ones I bought here were registered by the dealers directly.

Interesting.

First registeration in the canton. That was implied as the OP is moving and will be registering the car for the first time. But I guess not.

Although I was inadvertently right.
