Taken in by today's "rules, rules, rules, please take the spice out of life"?
I like it (not to mention that we in Wintethur didn't have to suffer from noise for a change). Gosh am I glad to hear there are actually still one or two alive out there (I was beginning to worry the past days).

And for those living in their teeny-weeny (not you, pilatus) world: It was approved. yaaaawn.

I'd have called it good use of (natural) resources.

I'm a cynic. So many of these 'newsworthy' events are contrived, just advertisements in disguise. I wouldn't be surprised if Swissair paid for the news coverage ahead of time.

I would also be surprised, if Swissair paid anything for it

Re: Swiss Pilot's Detour

The flight/detour did take place:

https://www.flightradar24.com/data/f...x1953/#f33d790

However, the supposed FB photo says it came from Lars Jensen. There is no profile from a Lars Jensen with this pic.

I have too much time on my hands.

10 seconds, and here's your Lars.

well, i tried to find him and there were three Lars Jensens to pick from, none of them were him.

I don't actually ever use FB though so maybe i screwed up, wouldn't be the first time.

I still just see it as promotion in any case. The 'news' was first broken by swissinfo.ch, a branch of the SRG - and surely they are backed by advertising money coming from Swiss Airlines.

Just clicking the link which is embedded in the picture in the linked article would have been enough

Re: Swiss Pilot's Detour

Of course it’s promotion and marketing. But, it’s relatively low cost/low risk, so why not. Why not fly a decent view path if the conditions are right. Airlines have so much negative press anyway.

I once flew from Barcelona to ZRH and had the most amazing view of Thun and the Alps.

Of course this is a self-promotion case. In the meantime I'm personally pissed off with them because this is the only company I can fly with back home. And they're expensive as hell, plus those tired sandwiches...really? Rant over.

Re: Swiss Pilot's Detour

I'll share some other marketing for Swiss. Last week I flew with them to Madrid on my birthday. Towards the end of the flight the stewardess came looking for me and said "Happy Birthday Mr Cheese!" and presented this to me.

Ah, so that's why Greenmount has to pay so much for a flight

Well, then maybe Swiss should stop flying to that destination then

Happy birthday grumpy - belated.

Why Mr. cheese? Under what name do you book your tickets?
(or is this your way to promote that you deliver to Swiss catering? )

What would be so bad or despicable about that even if it had been planned? The detour took place so why not talk about it?

Booked under my name, but maybe someone at Swiss knew me and recognised my email address or more likely, one of the Swiss stewardesses who buy cheese from me somehow worked it out. I did ask but they wouldn't tell me.

I never stated anything was 'bad or despicable' - or any other judgmental adjective.

Presenting everyday, insignificant events as 'news' from a seemingly non-affiliated 3rd party is pure trickery of the general public- that's the whole goal. (making people think that they are getting the news, when they are getting your ad shoved in their face).

It happens all the time. If i were selling something I might do it, too. I've written several newspaper ads like this for previous employers in the past.

But it's not news by any means.
