Swisspass / Half-fare travel Card and Last Name

Hello Everyone.

I'm not too sure if anyone encounter this problem before. I'm filling out the application to get a swisspass and the half-fare travel card. My question is this, My passport still displays my maiden name (along with the residence permit). If I put my current last name, do I need to send a copy of my marriage certificate to show that my name did change? Or should I just put my maiden name and avoid the trouble?

According to the form I've seen, you don't need to provide identification unless you are buying it for someone else.

They launched the site too early.... too many teething problems. Could not linked with my old SBB account. All entered data is going into nirvana.

You can't ignore bureacracy! Go to the Commune, get your married name on your permis, then apply for the half-fare card. If the Commune don't know you are married you might have many problems in future.

I think you misunderstood. They know we are married. It says so on my permit. I just dont have my married last name on any identifications. Not even my passport. So it's the same as if we got married and never changed my last name. if that makes sense.

Yes, my husband is the one paying for it. So I would need to supply ID I believe.

I believe you have to get your name changed on passport and residence permit if you have changed your name.

I don't understand. Have you elected to keep your original name, and not change it to your husband's name at all? That's a perfectly valid option.

However, as far as I understand it, you are supposed to specify/register which name you'll take, i.e. either you stay with the name you had before you married, or you change everything to your married name.

Having some documents in one name and others in another is probably not legal, but in any case is likely to come back to bite you, one way or another, further down the line.

To update to my married name on the Swisspass I had to wait till I had my new passport. Guess it's an option to get in the old name for now and update? Cost 20.- for a new card.

I don't think is the same if some of your documents have your maiden name and some your husband's name. you should have the same name on all of your documents

Re: Swisspass / Half-fare travel Card and Last Name

if you want your maiden name on your Train stuff then no prob. Married name, then you can try....not sure if it will be bounced back.

I kept my maiden name, so all my stuff is in my own name, with one exception.

Somehow our health insurance has me listed with my husband’s name , and most of my doctors, hospital records and stuff have me listed like that. It really has not caused a problem. So my thinking is that it might not be a big deal for your train pass stuff.

Well which name do you intend to go by? You need to make a decision and then stick with it, otherwise you will end doing loops with the admin etc.. is some of your stuff is in one name and the rest in the other..

If it is a partner ticket and your don't have the same name as your husband, then you can expect to be sent back to the Geminde with a form from the SBB to get it signed by the Geminde to confirm you live together.

You can write both names and relax...I tried to get rid of the old name because I am married from 11 years but SBB seems to love me with both..LOL

If they wanted to respect the name from my passport , they would have deleted the old name.

actually it's fine. but given When and where I got married, i didn't have the time frame to change my last name on my passport. in the States they even told me "when ever you are ready to change your name, use your marriage certificate". I got married in the states and less than a week later I had to fly to China. since I am flying internationally, there was no time to update my passport. and since i only stayed in china for a few months to prep to arrive here, it would have been way to hectic to try and update EVERYTHING in my last name. (i.e. plane tickets, health certificate for my dog to travel, etc). so i kept my old last name because everything is in it right now. until once I get everything settled or until I need to renew my passport, then I will change everything to my married last name.

I never knew people actually change their passport when they get married. So you are a woman, name Maggy Smith, you marry to Richard Bouquet, you get a passport with Maggy Bouquet on it ?

If you legally change your name to Maggy Bouquet, yes. If you choose to keep your maiden name as your legal name, you don't need a new passport.

You can do whatever you want. Some people keep it, others don't.

If you have double nationality you can have a different name in one country than the other too

If you're concerned about divorce before you even get married, or if you're just averse to paperwork, leave your name as-is. Simples.
