Foreign drivers license is about to expire - Still possible to exchange after this?

Good day!

My Australian drivers license expires in December but I do not actually move to Switzerland until January - I am hoping that I will be still able to exchange it? Or must the license be valid before I am able to exchange it?

I am currently in Europe and not Australia and my current country of residence does not allow for me to exchange hence I have not exchanged up to this point.

Thanks!

Can't you just apply for a new Australian licence remotely?

Exactly. Say you've lost it if you need a reason.

Unfortunately no, I am required to provide them with a eye site test/report from an Australian optician.

NSW - Its the required eye sight test that is causing me the problem because my license is nearly maturing at 5 years old next month. If I didn't have to perform an eye site test then it would be okay.

I will phone up RTA and let them know my dilemma - Will update you.

You can simply take a Swiss eye test, take 2 passport photos, and exchange your Australian license for a Swiss license. Do it before the Australian license expires, asap is OK.

The 12 month period to exchange your license is the maximum, not minimum. Your Aussie license will be stamped "not valid in Switzerland" and returned to you.

His license expires before he moves to Switzerland.

1. What is your current country of residence I may ask?

2. Can you get a driving license record from your territories driving license authoroty? This normally needs neither sight test, nor phisical presence and should be enough to get a Swiss license.
For ex. https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/lic...istory/licence

Looks like they will renew the driver license if the optician report is in English and sent directly to their offices, but they did say that this cannot be guaranteed either - Seems to be done on case-by-case basis.
