One on the left hand side is broken and it will costs SO much to get it fixed in Landrover garage, so does anyone know that where I can buy car parts in zurich or ordering one online? I am hoping to buy the part and fix it myself, is that possiable? anyone has done this before?

Re: Looking for Discovery 4 wing mirror

Which part is broken? The complete module? Or it just makes grinding sound when open open/close it?

You can get a lot of spare parts on Ebay UK and on other specialists webpages. You need to know the part number and see some videos if you can do the swap yourself. How much is the quote?

Re: Looking for Discovery 4 wing mirror

What is broken?

I had a look, https://www.famousfour.co.uk/new_par...ub_sec=mirrors seems to be fairly representative.

Just the mirror is fairly cheap, but the whole unit or the cover are pretty expensive (the covers need painting).

Most mirrors are reasonably easy to replace, they often just clip in, but getting the cover off, or the whole unit off the car is usually a bit more of a challenge.

They quote 900 chf. Is this fair price?

Re: Looking for Discovery 4 wing mirror

I would make an appointment with a garage in Germany and combine it with a shopping day, and ask if the garage can find a second-handed unit online for you. In countries like Germany and The Netherlands it is very normal for a garage to buy parts second-handed for their customers to cut on the price.

You can easily send them all the details they need upfront so everything can be fixed at one meeting.

900,- is absolutely ridiculous for replacing this mirror.

Is it?

Parts: 350 GBP at the cheapest online dealer. That's some 450 CHF without any mark-up for being a brand garage.

So there are 450 CHF left for:
- spray painting
- installation

I'd assume an hourly rate of around 180-200 CHF in many parts of Switzerland... that leaves you with 2-3 hours of work. THe only money you can save in Germany is the delta of the hourly rate... which in this case wont save you hundreds. And I honestly doubt that an official LR garage will scavenge for used parts on your behalf. Not worth their time and a too exotic car in Germany.

no spraying is necessary you buy it in the correct colour to start with.

installation should be less then an hour

the covers under the link are only primed... i'd make the guess tha a painted one will be more and its realistic to assume that Swiss list prices for parts are a lot higher than some UK online dealer. that leaves us with not much more than an hour for installation, no?

I'm not saying its a bargain, but when it comes the CH dealers are there far worse rip offs out there... this is borderline reasonable. I guess the brand dealer in Germany is 50-100 cheaper, not more.

OP needs only 1 mirror. So that is 175GBP - 229 Chf. (let's leave VAT out for now)
Painting only needed if they are some weird rare color else you order in the correct color.
Installation should not exceed one hour for just a mirror.

So tel me, how is 900,- Chf. Not a rip-off?

Also since when should one for just a mirror go to an official dealer?

Re: Looking for Discovery 4 wing mirror

unless the op posts whats actually wrong with the current mirror then we have no idea what they need you also have to take into account what extras they have, heated, power, puddle lights, auto retracting etc etc which all add to the costs, its not a cheap car so spares aren't going to be cheap

175 GBP is the mirror without the mirror ;-) It's not just lacking the glass, it's also lacking the cover, no matter what color that is... And you are assuming she has a landrover without options - I think only the military orders them that way... any normal Landrover has some more expensive mirrors thanks to the gadgets that go in which are clearly listed in the link posted.

She mentioned herself that the spare parts on famousfour add up to 350 GBP. Not sure why you are debating this... but yes, yes - if she find the matching bit on a junkyard can she save some money. You are really helpful as usually.

Lets wait till she mentions what she actually needs, like bigblue2 already stated. Truth is we just do not know what we are talking about with the given info.

Re: Looking for Discovery 4 wing mirror

Yes, you need to specify:

- car model, year and color
- heated mirror?
- motorized adjustment with memory?
- motorized folding?
etc.

Part comes prime painted only, will need to go to a paint shop.

Removal of defective part, installation of replacement part.

To replace my left outside mirror (heated, motorized, BMW M3) would cost around 900-1,000.

Big thanks to all advices., I didnít give enough details at the beginning, sorry,
My mirror is not complete broken, only the glass and the plastic frame. Cover is still fine, can be reused.and the motor is also fine as it can still auto fold, I think I only need the frame part from the whole unit but unfortunately it cant be separately bought( I am still seaching so thatís all, thanks again to everyone.

Re: Looking for Discovery 4 wing mirror

In that case would I suggest to go for a second opinion at a non-brand repair shop used to people not willing to pay full premium garage prices. I made decent experiences with these guys - large German chain store with a couple of outlets in CH, I think the closest to ZH is: http://www.atu.ch/filiale-spreitenbach-633.html
