Fairtiq make it clear you need to have your Half-fare card on you. The couple of times I was checked, the inspector didn't want to see it.
If "make it clear" means a paragraph at the bottom of "Further questions > Can I add an existing card to the FAIRTIQ App?" - they do.

A comment or link next to "Ticket Preferences" would be clearer...

Re: Fairtiq - phone app for public transport tickets

My child used some GPS developer mode on his android phone to cheat in Pokemon Go game.
From what you're saying the ticket code scanned by controllers is generic, so one could imagine that the system could be abused by keeping the GPS location fixed while travelling around the country.

Re: Fairtiq - phone app for public transport tickets

Giving this thread a bump since I saw an article on lolcal today that made me think of it.

https://www.thelocal.ch/20181004/swi...hrough-its-app

Did SBB buy Fairtiq, license it, or come up with a competing app?

A quick google and visit to their website does not indicate that they were bought by SBB.

If SBB developed their own app - it seems they wasted some money (guess who's gonna pay for this), me thinks. As they're already proviting from the fairtiq system.

I've just seen this: It is SBB Easyride:

https://www.sbb.ch/en/timetable/mobi.../easyride.html
https://www.sbb.ch/en/timetable/mobi...yride/faq.html

I never tried Fairtiq but might try this soon. The rules are hard if your smartphone fails during the journey. You are treated as a fare dodger.

I also make use of "Spar tickets" where possible (you've just got to plan ahead a bit) which are not compatible with the Easyride concept.

I guess anyway that Fairtiq must have been working at least closely with the SBB to be able to integrate with their (the SBB's) ticketing system.

Looks like SBB have partnered with Fairtiq to incorporate it into the SBB App, benefiting both.

Re: Fairtiq - phone app for public transport tickets

Can someone please explain to me this case. With fairtiq I did a round trip during the day e.g. I started at 1pm and returned back at 7pm. So it charged me for 6.20fr (3.20fr one way + 3.20fr return). Normally if I buy a round ticket in SBB app it's valid until 1pm of next day. So I can travel until 1pm of next day. But if I go somewhere the next day and use fairtiq it charges me again. And in fact, I pay 6.20fr + amount of the next day trip. Is it expected?

Ran into a bit of trouble at Zurich airport today, where the rail station is deep underground. Couldn't start the app do to location not found until the train was overground. Made a mental note to fire it while waiting for my case next time - there always plenty of time then...
I had that problem a couple of times, now I turn wifi on and choose airport (or HB) free wifi, you don't need to log in, the app will know where you are.
