They do tend to drive fancy BMWs they have confiscated from dealers, etc.
Nonsense, they're auctioned off.

Re: Why does EVERYONE drives faster than the speed limit?

Today, again... same thing... I was coming from Aargau, between town and town i was driving at the speed limit, and when finally got to the highway, 2 old ladies on a Mini that they were behind me for a long time, they pass me and look at me as if I was crazy or so for driving "too slow"...

Only in Switzerland...

Re: Why does EVERYONE drives faster than the speed limit?

If your ego can bear it: Don't mind it

Went to Bern this week, passing Solothurn canton very attentively (they already got a large donation form me a long time ago - and they don't ask, they demand). I was in Bern 20 minutes before the navi said I would be. guess I'm one of those ladies too.

Very neat by the way, the way the "Solothurnis" set up the modern cameras on the way back - in the free zone, just before the signalisation turns to 100. They didn't get me though. At least not there. I'll have to give it a few weeks before feeling too snug. These guys are something else - always have been.

I think it's already been covered, your 'at the speed limit' is clearly other people's 'crawling along'. Not sure what it is you find so hard to understand

... do you get so many people rigidly sticking to what their car says is the limit, without regard to the inconvenience caused to other drivers.

Re: Why does EVERYONE drives faster than the speed limit?

You won't believe it but we have a saying here: "Rules are here to be broken".
This is popular speech, not official guideline, don't get it wrong

You will meet loads of people who break rules and regulations now and then, so get used to it. You won't hear them moan about the fines though, they pay up and move on. If they rant about it, they will rant about themselves - having been stupid to get cought.

So mind your own business, make your own decisions - which ever way - and you'll be comfi.

OK, hands up. I am one of those women too. I just love driving- would never have an automatic car either.I always abide with speed limits in towns and villages. But, when conditions are right, and I know the road well, I give it some welly. So there ...

Points on the licence along with the fine, "x" number of points and licence lost for 6 months or more, I wonder how many drivers would obey the rules then.

That's a whole different control system, I'd even say attitude to how big-brother/nanny life should be led.

There is this spectrum here where you can pay up (enough to make it hurt, mind you) and it's forgotten but it's not that you can go totally wild without it being recorded. Interestingly enough it is rare that you see/hear of people seriously speeding. (The last ones I heard of were a bunch of English guys )

One reason may be that speeding tickets have no influence on your car insurance.

Why should they?

In countries where that is the case, it is just another money-making scam for the insurance theives.

Re: Why does EVERYONE drives faster than the speed limit?

I drive a bit faster most of the times, depending on the situation, road and traffic.

I do get some tickets from time to time (maybe three or four per year, not too bad), I just budget for them.

Yes, sometimes people who need to brake in front of you when the speed limit decreases from 60 to 50 are a bit annoying....unless there's a speedcam. I mean, just letting the gas pedal a bit would do...
