The Boxter before we moved here was fun, but not much good on snowy mountains

Got my Motorcycle licence in 69 too then full driving licence again in UK 1970 (pre EU you had to retake the whole thing).

Yeah, those annoying "now you can go up to 60... and then a few meters later, HEY! TOWN, 50 general... ffuuuuu" its more what it annoys that what i helps...
That is true. I leave the garage - 50 for like 100m - get into 80-zone for about 300m, pass a 60-zone for about 150m to return to 80-zone for maybe 500m to enter the next 50-zone.

But you know if you know that you can just chose a middle-speed steadily between the two 50-zones That's one reason it's called individual transport maybe.

Ulimately, because we remember when the limits were higher and/or there were no limits.

I've recently acquired a Landrover Defender, yet still find myself stuck behind slow drivers.

The worst is being on the motorbike on a beautiful day, stuck behind someone going 40 in a 50 zone in town. You get impatient, wait until between towns, and then speed up and pass them. Ah, freedom....until 10 seconds later you're in the next town already, now sandwiched between another slow driver in front, and the one you had just passed. And then you feel stupid for even being impatient and passing the first car to begin with...

Better to ride the country roads at night when the Swiss are all snug in their beds, IMO.

Or lower. Like a general limit of 100km/h on the Autobahn.

Well I started with a 2CV when I was 18 in Geneva, since then had about 20 different cars, too many brands to mention, but some like Golf R, Alfa Romeo 4C and even my current FIAT 500 Abarth are meant to be driven fast, so yes most of the the time I drive a bit over the speed limit and have not getting a ticket in over 4 years ( NC,USA )

For 4 months in late '73 - early '74, before that unlimited, and after 130.

Re: Why does EVERYONE drives faster than the speed limit?

We used to be ghost drivers in the 60s- driving our 2 cvs with the front air grill opened, that gave you sufficient view to drive on a straight bit out of town- and bend down so it looked as there was no driver.

Oh my, we had fun in those days, lol.
