Contesting a "control busse"

Today we were at the Zurich Zoo and had to park offsite and take a bus. When I returned to the car and then drove back the way we came I encountered a barrier (not really clear, but yes it was there) that closed the road in that direction. The thing is that it was not visible or obvious they had closed the road until I was in the middle of the intersection, at which time it would have been dangerous to turn around.

Basically there were 6-7 police right there just pulling over people (many did the same) for going around this barrier. I think most people made the same mistake and didnt realize the road was closed. They were literally just raking in 100 CHF fines.

While I respect their right to close the road to manage traffic flow, it was one of these occasions where it seemed intentionally obscure (like the speed limit signs that ask you to slow from 120 to 80 just as there is a flasher).

I made a joke to the police officer about how they were making a good business and it was clear he also agreed. But made the excuse that "the money was not for them".

I'm not sure if I should try to contest this? if its worth it or if it might cost me more. Does anybody know? I just find it infuriating that driving in Zurich brings basically a hidden tax. Also as if these guys dressed in their riot gear have nothing better to do than hang out in the woods next to Fifa and chill on a sunny afternoon. What a joke.

Re: Contesting a "control busse"

So you are on a crossing, you realise that you are not allowed to continue straight on, so you decide to move straight on into the direction you know you are not allowed to go instead of going left or right or whatever and now you are sad that you got a fine...

Well, this is going to be a fun topic to read tomorrow morning while drinking a coffee.

Have you considered handing in your licence? Since, well, apparently from this thread, you're unfit to drive..

You should definitely contest this.

or if it might cost me more.
Very unlikely it will cost you more as you will probably win and be awarded costs.

What a joke.
You said it.

You should also add weight to your case with the 'obscure speed limit signs' , 'tax on driving' and the 'better things to do' wry observations.

Do let us know how you get on.

Not to mention claiming damages for the pain and suffering of having been forced to park and take a bus.

Again point taken, and you are I think one of only two people on this thread being helpful. Love the trolls

.... I won't be doing anything like that again.

still, strange he let me off....
So he decided to try his luck doing something else this time...It would be SUPER great if he was issued the fine by the policeman who let him off the first time!

So don't drive in the city, use public transport instead.

How can they have been chilling when, as you say, they were essentially lying in ambush for law-abiding drivers such as you?
