Car or Taxi from Baden to Basel Airport

Hi, I tried searching but could not find anything. Can anyone recommend a reliable car / taxi service to take me from the Baden area to the Basel Airport for a 3:30 am pickup?

Most of the places I found via google search were outside of CH, and so I thought I would look for some direct experience from you wise people. Also, I've read here in the past that some people have had issues with their taxi showing up on time. Can't have that as it would be very bad news if I missed the flight.

Thank you!

Re: Car or Taxi from Baden to Basel Airport

Is there a reason for this early pick up time ??

The first flights leave basel airport at 06am , so when you be at the airport at around 5am and drop your bag , you should be fine.

A taxi to basel SBB will cost around 50sfr,the trip from baden to the euroairport should be around 150 sfr.

A hotel room in st.louis or Freiburg/DE will be cheaper , both cities offer a cheap bus transfer to the airport

Re: Car or Taxi from Baden to Basel Airport

I'd say every taxi business should be able to do so.

Can't recommend any in that neighbourhood tho since I do not know them.

PS: for the money for a cab you can likely also can go during the day, have a restaurant, some sightseeing, a hotel and get to sleep longer.

Re: Car or Taxi from Baden to Basel Airport

Thanks for your replies. I considered spending the night, and it would be easier, but have to work all day Thurs and be home in evening so it just won't work. May be okay for me to leave at 4am, but as I am flying to San Francisco, I thought better to be early.

So I guess I will just call a Baden area car service and ask them for an appt. Just read a few horror stories on here about early morning taxis never showing up, so now feeling a bit paranoid. Too bad I can't overbook like the airlines........

Don't you have a friend in the neighbourhood? I have brought friends to the airport in the middle of the night. Should not be to much of a favour to ask aslong as it's not a habit, if they have a license and no car you could pay them a rental for a day (or two) still cheaper than a cab and they could use it to go shopping in Germany or such.

Re: Car or Taxi from Baden to Basel Airport

There are no direct flights from basel to san francisco, so you will have to change to an international flight here in europe (Paris, London, AMS).
Because your first leg in a flight here in europe, you should be fine arriving at 05 am to drop your bag.

Re: Car or Taxi from Baden to Basel Airport

Pretty much all taxi companies are 24/7.

Alternative Uber, but I wouldn't exactly rely on that.

And indeed there are no direct flights to San Francisco and if the layover is in Europe, continental check-in times apply and you don't have to show up earlier than an hour before the flight. Sure 90mins would be better and 60mins is tight, but the airport is small, it doesn't take long to get anywhere.

Regardless, I checked on SBB and there is no train that would get you there before 5am. So taxi it is...

Alternative: look whether you can rent a Mobility car the night before, drive there and drop it off in Basel, but I don't think this will really save you time, even if's the cheaper option.

Baden to Basel with Taxi. That will maybe cost more than the flight. The SBB is pathetic

yeah i never got why they didnt have a train going to basel airport. surely would make it a lot more attractive option than getting the bus from Basel and have drag you luggage all over the place.

Re: Car or Taxi from Baden to Basel Airport

Okay, here is my update. I called a service that advertised itself as "Airport Service from Baden" and made a reservation for this morning. He told me it would be CHF200. However, I saw on the way there that the meter was running in the taxi and it ended up costing CHF300. When I tried to argue with the guy, he said I didn't understand, yada yada which was BS because I had confirmed the cost twice on the phone as I thought even CHF200 was high.

So I paid the 300 and consider it a lesson. Call me naive but it was stunning that someone lied to my face like that.

Still don't understand why the SBB doesn't just run trains to get people to the airport for early morning departures. That would be my preference.

So that's the story. Not a very happy ending. Rant over.

Stay overnight in the area of the airport or book a flight with a later departure are the cheaper options the paying 300 sfr for a taxi from baden to basel airport

Basel is a relatively minor airport, and the French (who actually operate the airport) refused to pay even a small amount to the proposed rail link.

Blame them, not SBB, who wanted to build such link long ago.

Good idea - if it was a personal trip, I would certainly have done this. Because it is a work trip, I cannot get reimbursed for the hotel stay (I asked), but they will reimburse the taxi. I also had the idea to drive my car, park it at the airport and have my OH take the train to pick it up later. This was my backup plan in case the taxi didn't show up. However, my OH's train ticket to BSL wouldn't have been reimbursed either, nor was he enthusiastic about having to do this as you can imagine.

Still, the best solution for me would be to just take an early morning train, even if I had to take a bus from Basel to the airport. Why don't they start having early morning trains before the first flight out of the airport???? This just doesn't make sense to me.

Maybe an idea for a business in there somewhere......?

Re: Car or Taxi from Baden to Basel Airport

I suspect that if the airport was better connected in the morning, those early morning flights would be much more expensive. There's a reason they are cheap.

They do start a bus service from Basel early enough to get to the airport for the first flight. How many people do you think want to travel every day from Baden, or any other given town, to the airport for that time?

The first service from Baden to Euroairport arrives at 0636 which is probably early enough for a flight from about 8am. It looks like today there were 18 flights departing before that time. Let's assume that each flight has 120 passengers, that makes 2160 passengers. Now let's assume that 0.1% of the passengers come from any given town. That makes 2 people, hardly enough to make a train viable.

The first train from Baden to Basel SBB (not the airport) gets in at 0610 which is impressively early, in my opinion.

You could have driven and left you car in the S12 car park, it's only about 12 chufs a day and just a 5 minute walk to the terminal.

Re: Car or Taxi from Baden to Basel Airport

Catch-Car now do a 24-Hour rate of 88 CHF

You could pick up a car in Basel the day before then leave it at the airport in the morning. Even with the 10 CHF airport fee, 98 CHF is a lot cheaper than a Taxi.

Though, again, I guess that's not going to help with an expenses claim.

Re: Car or Taxi from Baden to Basel Airport

Never done this myself but it has been recommended to me by somebody claiming to have done it.

Basel casino is supposedly open all night and within walking distance from airport. Take the money you save by not catching the taxi and hang around in the casino, maybe even end up being richer than when you went in. Catch up on your sleep on the plane.
