I have read through this forum and noted the very useful links posted by the likes of VWILD1 in the past, but annoyingly i still have not answered my question and I can't seem to find the answer on any official website.

The matter in hand is that i wish to ride a 125CC moped in Switzerland, however, my UK licence has been exchanged for a Swiss licence that does not even show a motorcycle symbol. I have completed a Compulsory Bike Test in the UK and wonder if this will cover me to ride a moped bigger than category G whilst in Switzerland? If it will cover me, do i need to send my CBT certificate off for verification somewhere?

No, it won't. You have to start again in Switzerland.

Mmmmm. When I transferred my UK licence in 1989 I was able to transfer my m/c permission too (this is for every kind of bike). Have things changed??

My husband and I both swapped over our UK licences to Swiss ones in 2002 and the new licences had the motorbike symbol put on automatically, we didn't need to re-test here. Like Ab Fab, I'm afraid I don't know if things have changed since then. Maybe it was an oversight?? They initially put on my Swiss licence that I could drive an HGV and HGV + trailer.... but about 6 months later asked for me to return it to them, sent me a new one, and I as a result had to give up my new job as long haul truck driver. (kidding) But more seriously, can you go down to the licence centre and enquire? You'll get your answer quickly then.

Swiscath, thank you for your answer - entirely clear. I too have an HGV 'award' now which they will no doubt change! When i resolve the CBT issue i'll post the result here for others in the future.

I suspect you both had a full m/c license?

From the information porvided, the op only has the CBT part .

Indeed the CBT will count for Jack Schitt here; you'd need an A1-equivalent category on the UK licence.

If you speak even remotely average Italian, you'll sale through a A1 basic training and test; I'd consider doing it on an A-rated bike so you don't have to do it twice
