FineX Community work X Jail

I got a speeding ticket. I was 71km/h in a 50 way. I got $1050. They also offered that I could "pay" this with 6 days in jail or community work.
I was wondering if anyone knows about someone who performed community work instead of paying the fine.

Plus, you wont have to pay for food nor anything like that xD

When Jail is better than paying

Out of joke, I would pay... otherwise I guess you will get a worse record of yourself at the police...

Re: FineX Community work X Jail

Old friend of mine did community work (not in Ch tho), he had to repaint a big playground, two weeks of fun in the sun and he got into a long term relationship with one of the playground volunteers

If you have the time I absolutely would do the community work, if you need to take a week off from work it makes little sense to do so imho.

Jail/Community work is only an option if you cannot pay. They will issue a normal pursuit first and may size assets, the simplest is to forfeit your paycheck.

Re: FineX Community work X Jail

I would fancy the jail option too .. I even heard a rumour from a block in the pub of course that if you are employed, you can go to work then report to jail for the night..

What people pay for a few nights away from the wife/husband/kids.. for free!

do the jail option, have a tattoo of a tear on your face and live like a boss.

hint: if someone would ever asks you why and for what, be sure to come up with a better story than 71 in a 50 zone.

We can presume this is the case, since OP writes that he/she has already been offered this option.

Unless you are of a robust constitution, and yearning for an adventure which might not turn out well, I'd caution against the option of jail.

As I have been told, community service can, upon request be organised so as not to interrupt your work, studies or child-care, etc. If this is granted to you, you may be able to do cleaning after a sporting event, or shifts cleaning in an old-age home, or clearing the grounds for a new project, perhaps very early in the morning before work, or on weekends.

In any case, it is usual for this work to be structured, defined, with an observant manager ensuring that everyone obeys the rules. And you are likely to gain some insight into an aspect of society that you might otherwise not have seen.

That's only possible if you can prove that you can't pay.

Because of that, amongst other reasons.

Not so. They always list the penalties for non-payment of court-assigned fines. I think it's supposed to encourage you to pay.

That's interesting. I'd have thought that the "penalties for non-payment" would be an extra, further penalty, which is a different Thing from actually being allowed to work off the original fine.

OP, I had understood you to mean that you had specifically been informed that you would be allowed to choose community service or jail. Is that the case? Or is it, as Ace1 writes here, that the community service or jail that you mention are specified as penalties for non-payment?

I might have understood it wrong then (google translate, you know...) I'm from a French Canton and the letter is in German. Google said I could pay it off in community service, but maybe it's related to an extra penalty if the fine is not paid.

I don't have a paid job. But then, I guess, they would pursue my husband's assets.

Yep. And it's not phrased as "offers".

Re: FineX Community work X Jail

Pay it and forget about it.

6 days in jail = 144 hours

If they want 144 hours in community work, that's 3 and 1/2 weeks.

Approx CHF 7.20 an hour equivalent.

Actually, no.

Taxes are shared, fines are not.

I dare to predict it will be the most boring 6 days of OP's life. Unless they have a good, fat book to read.

Sorry, you can't take the husband along to jail. Nor your pet, I think not even your pot plant
