Any all-electric cars for less than 30K

My wife wants a new car, Id like an all-electric plugin type. Any chance I can find something here in Switzerland?

Re: Any all-electric cars for less than 30K

1. Go to autoscout.ch
2. Enter "fuel type electric"
3. Enter "Milage under 5000km"
4. Enter "Price under 30k CHF"

Not that hard, was it?

Re: Any all-electric cars for less than 30K

I don't see the point why an electric car should be 'new'. The best deals in electric cars can probably be had with anything that is one to three years old. The BMW i3 would probably make a good choice as a runabout...and you could very likely find yourself fighting over its use with your wife. Just avoid the white interiors.

Re: Any all-electric cars for less than 30K

So I found this BMW i3 on immioscout 100km on the clock but:

Prix neuf CHF 49'220.-
Prix CHF 29'900.-

Im confused. How can they give a 20K discount?

ever bought a car before? essentially because nobody in his wildest dream would pay 50k for it. BMW just makes up inflated prices to give discounts.

20-30% discount are the norm outside Switzerland for a new car you can configure exactly as youd want it. if its a display model from a previous model year do you give more discount to move the stock. it was the only car in the list id actually consider...

Re: Any all-electric cars for less than 30K

BMW just launched a model with higher battery capacity. Battery capacity on the i3 evolved from 60ah to 94ah and now 120ah.

A second hand model with range extender engine and 94ah will probably start around about 30 thousand. Without the range extender engine you will pay about 3 thousand less.

Re: Any all-electric cars for less than 30K

If you are interested in camera based cruise control which will start and stop automatically in traffic jams, then look for a car with the Driving Assistant Plus package. Another desirable feature could be the Harman Kardon sound system.

I rented an i3 about two years ago to find out what electric cars are all about. I liked it very much. High seating position, well built, drives like a go kart, roomy inside, compact on the outside. Unfortunately I can't charge in the shared garage of my appartment.

I don't know about for purchase but there are a few companies that offer all-inclusive lease/hire of electric cars here - 600-800CHF per month;

and a different model with a GA included, SBB Green Class too.

Re: Any all-electric cars for less than 30K

How is your usage-pattern with it?

I think the only cars apart from Teslas that I'd buy are Kia E-Niro and Hyundai Kona. And the Jaguar i-Pace.

Kona can be had for 50-ish-K CHF.

Later this year, Audi's e-Tron and the Mercedes EQC will be available for order.
Jaguar, Audi, Mercedes will offer better fit-and-finish than Tesla, but IMO no longer range nor more efficiency.

For 30k, I'd get a used 2017 (or 2018) Skoda Suberb and drive that until there's more choice in the market for electric cars. And more chargers.

Personally, I don't think there is going to be some kind of range-revolution in the electric car space any time soon.

You'll get 400-to-500km of range on a 90kW battery, depending on the trim of the vehicle (and its size).
I also don't see prices going down significantly. Battery prices don't look like they're going to decrease - all the above manufacturers can't produce in volume, due to battery-shortages...

One thing to factor in is if the battery dies outside of warranty. The leaf is about 6K or the Chevy bolt 15K to replace.Worth bearing in mind.

Are there any actual data publicly available on battery lifetime and reliability on electric cars? It's probably too early to tell but this would be a major factor driving used electric car prices...

And also for the ecological footprint of the car.

Re: Any all-electric cars for less than 30K

You get eight years warranty from Tesla - what comes after that is pretty unchartered territory - I'm not sure there are even Teslas that old.

For Priuses, there's a market for refurb batteries that are apparently quite good (and not too expensive - but of course a lot smaller)

Currently, it's only worth it if you drive a lot.
Else the savings just aren't there. Both financial and for carbon.

The extra capacity between a P75 and a P100 Model X is upwards 20k on purchase.
So, a full replacement is probably quite expensive. Body-work is apparently also not cheap - and only Tesla can do it.

Generally, electric cars will mean that a lot of smaller, independent shops will close. They won't be able to afford the specialized equipment nor do they have the skill to work on these cars (nor will they be able to obtain or hold the certifications). These cars will be like giant iPhones, where you can't even buy spares unless you are a certified shop.

I think it will only then dawn on people what the sentence "software is eating the world" really means in practice.

Honestly - small shops will be the least of the issues. An electric car is frankly speaking much simpler than a modern combustion engine. A tesla model 3 engine is estimated to cost around 700 USD and has a handful of parts. There are a million jobs in car manufacturing and supppliers in Germany alone. If you dont need any more fuel pumps and god knows what peripherals will we lose hundreds of thousands of jobs. I think independent mechanics will be able to work on EVs. That Tesla wont allow this is the same sort of bullshit that Ferrari does... they also claim that only their mechanics could possibly weld their cars.

Does anyone have any experience of Juicar? They seem to offer very reasonable prices compared to the other companies mentioned.

I'm looking to get my partner a "little" all-electric. Im already a Tesla owner, and love it. But IMHO there a number of new "little" cars in the pipeline, so would like to lease (probable a BMW i3) for the next 12 months and see how the market developes.
