Washing the motorcycle: where?

Hi all,

I am a happy owner of an Africa Twin, and I am desperately looking for places where to wash it, especially now that chemical salt is being spread all over the place.

Do you know any garage or gas station where washing a motorcycle is possible? Possibly around Birmensdorf/Uitikon/Urdorf.

I checked a few of them around my area but they are only for cars.

Many thanks!

I need to wash the salt off and want to apply some ACF-50, which requires the bike to be thoroughly cleaned...

Yep, any DIY carwash with jet hoses. Most of them provide heated water, which is a treat in this weather.

Just be careful not to apply the high pressure stream near any bearings!

Re: Washing the motorcycle: where?

Maybe you know this.. but I felt as dumb as a bag of spanners when it was pointed out to me... as I awkwardly 'power jet' washed mine to the side of the drainage grid... there's always a plate somewhere on the grid for you to put your side stand down

... and following the wash, lube the chain (if you have one) after riding the bike for 10 minutes or so, to dry it off.

OP, it's best not to apply the ACF-50 in the carwash. They object fairly strenuously to any chemicals (including alloy wheel cleaner and your own detergent) being added to their waste water, as it's often recycled and reused in the carwash. But you'd want to dry the bike thoroughly first anyway, so you'd be well clear of the washing area.

KEN'S car wash in Adliswil is good. I know it's not so close... but just in case you're passing. That's where I do mine.

This is the one I always go to, and also sometimes use the carwash for the car.

Is a nice one, nothing special but gets the job done!

I see them being used all the time, despite the signs saying not to clean engines there, so this is what I would do if I didn't own my own place.

Re: Washing the motorcycle: where?

Thanks to all of you for the valuable inputs.

Unfortunately I couldn't find any DIY car wash around my area, so I went to Wiedikon and found one. I washed my bike there and then applied some acf-50 at home, although I am afraid that on the way back home, after being washed, the bike picked up even more salt than it already did until now. Ideally I would have loved to find a car wash really close to my place to avoid that, but hey...can't help it.

Washing a motorcycle here is a lot harder than I thought!

Re: Washing the motorcycle: where?

My advice. Don't try a drive-in car wash if you are on a motor cycle.

Of course drive-through carwashes work on bikes! Make sure you wear a full-face helmet with the visor down, though, otherwise the windscreen cleaning part of the carwash is a little uncomfortable.

I don't know any other way to clean the bugs off my leathers when there's no rain. It's an all in one service.

Full face is optional, but highly recommended. If you go open face just don't select the wax option.
