Exchanging foreign license

Hi,

I need to swap my english license for the swiss one and the valais website says to send my english one with the form however, I was under the impression you must always have your license with you when you drive here so I have worries about sending it due to my job revolving around driving at the moment .

Is this the case if so is there a way to be able to.

This.

True, law says that you need to have it, practice however is that if your license chance is being processed that a copy will do. At the road traffic office they gave me a copy so I could keep on driving during those days.

Re: Exchanging foreign license

Just do not drive abroad. If you get checked by the police show the photo copy and state that you applied for a swap. In the very worst it is a CHF 20 fine.

Re: Exchanging foreign license

I switched to the Swiss license last year: what I didn't know at the time is that they forward the old UK license back to DVLA. So say goodbye to it, before you put it in the post.

Although for many British Expats you can still see your DVLA licence online at View or Share your
driving licence information at Gov.uk - months after you exchanged it.

Re: Exchanging foreign license

I was told I wasn't allowed to drive while the licence was being converted. Copy or not.

Legally you need to have it on hand, practice however is that a copy during exchanging is fine, even the traffic road office themselves offer you a copy for if you want to drive during those days.
