Filtering through traffic on a motorbike

Is it allowed?

If no, what are the penalties and do people do it anyway?

No idea if it is allowed but people do it.

Why, did the police stop you?

No, it's explicitly disallowed. Yes, people do it anyway. I used to do it all the time when I was still riding, just kept a good eye out for cops. Never got pulled, so no idea what the penalties are.

Re: Filtering through traffic on a motorbike

Just filtering through traffic is not enough. How about four blades attached to the hubs of your wheels. They should be retractable (switch blade knives are forbidden AFAIK) and preferably used to slash the tyres of road-hogging SUVs -removing the feet of stationary cyclists might be fun but is considered to be bad sportsmanship and, more importantly, they might be my feet.

Re: Filtering through traffic on a motorbike

I am not so certain it is banned in Vaud. Recently in Nyon they have been putting yellow boxes in front of the signal stop line at traffic lights. I donít think they are just for cycles and I see scooters and mbikes using them.

I would really prefer if they didnít do it on my right side. And they should use absoute caution expecting that we drivers are going to do something stupid at any moment.

AND STAY OUT OF MY BLIND SPOTS!!!

Re: Filtering through traffic on a motorbike

It's illegal but tollerated or even expected.

I even do it past cops , but NEVER on the RH side, then you are just asking to be busted.

Around here, locals will leave 3m or so before the stop line at a TL for bikes to filter to, including the cops!

You should hear OH and me when we talk about people who do that.....moahahah. I think people learned to accept it and tolerate it because you can't really "not tolerate" that.

I don't like it glorified.

It's the other way around, drivers have to think and be prudent for them too. Do not expect responsible behaviour...

Always remember to stick your foot out to say thank you

Even the frontaliers here have learnt to do that . I always keep an eye out for riders and give them space if I can - and they always say 'foot' thank you.

Here we have a mod advising people to do what is "explicitly illegal".

"Pig"

"Retard"

Miss D. nobody talks like this anymore. It's offensive and at the least, dated.

So... are we desperately bored or horribly lonely? Enquiring minds etc etc. And just to clarify, this is in no way a flirtatious overture.
