Circle interchange question

I want to verify a rule when using a circle interchange. If there are two lanes when entering the circle interchange, you use the inner lane if you are going from straight on to a full trip around.

My question is about a local interchange that has two lanes going in and then two lanes going out as a left turn. Do I enter using the inner lane regardless of which of the two lanes I exit onto, or do I use the outer lane for the right lane and the inner lane for the left lane?

Thanks!

Re: Circle interchange question

You mentioned "left turn", so I assume you will leave on the 3rd exit... I would take the inner/left lane when I enter. And as I pass the 2nd exit, I will move over to the outer/right lane for my exit.

A roundabout to you and me.

Here’s some info for the OP. He can change the language to German or Italian if he prefers.

In this case, #4 of 5.

Re: Circle interchange question

In general you consider the roundabout as just another stretch of road. You can change lanes/exit according to the posted rules and road markings. In Basel the ones I've seen all have sign posts and road markings which show you where you need to be. If there are no specific rules it's customary for the right lane to only turn right or straight on, although I believe there is no rule to stop them going all the way around.

Re: Circle interchange question

Unless the roundabout is stupidly marked that you can go left from both lanes. One in Matran was changed to that recently and frankly it was a dangerous roundabout before they made that change. Now you have to watch for cars coming around on the right side of you as well. Plus not helped by the fact that few drivers even bother to signal they want to go left no matter which lane they're in.
