Because it is the market price. Actually the cheapest in Autoscout24.ch with those characteristics. The last payment always depends on the initial payment if I am not mistaken...

No, Residual Value=Initial Value - Depreciation, where Depreciation is calculated based on Years/Mileage which is then based on "market forces" on that particular car model. The initial payment/downpayment affects only the monthly payment.

The car in question is 25K residual but sells at 35K current prices. Why don't you and the other guy meet in the "middle", you pay 30K, this way you split the difference evenly.

No, Residual Value=Initial Value - Depreciation.
Contractual residual value <= Initial value - expected depreciation.
Expected residual value = Initial value - expected depreciation.
and also
Expected residual value =/= Market value at end of lease.

There are lease contracts where contractual residual value is on purpose bellow the expected residual value.

Because the market value is 35k Or in other words if the buyer buys it for 30k it could sell it straight on for 35k and make 5k profit.

You're right, I was only thinking of the "standard" leases. If the buyer intends to buy the car the end of the lease, then a lower residual can be forced and initial/monthly payment goes higher.

I'm suggesting to the OP to grab a share of the 10K "profit" which obviously depends on the situation of the other guy. If the other guy badly needs the 25K to payoff the residual, then the OP can pounce on this.

Re: Buying a Company Car as a private person

So the day has finally come and I can say that the process went better that I thought. The car in question was an Audi A6 2.0 TDI Quattro with 45000 Km, a 11.2016 facelift model. I bought it for 33500 together with extra Conti 20” summer tyres with alloys.

We made a buying contract, and I transfered the initial payment of 5000 to his bank account so that he can be sure I am serious and won’t change my mind.

Then he payed for the vehicle and went to his Strassenverkehrsamt and removed the 178 and made the Fahrzeugausweis invalid.

Today he gave the papers to me and I drove to the Strasenverkehrsamt in my region and changed them to my name and got number plates.

I then transferred the rest and he will get it tomorrow. Thats when I will go and get the car and drive home.

Since it was my first purchase of a used vehicle from a private person, I admit it was a bit stressful. Fortunately the guy was cool and trustworthy.

Happy ending (not the Thai kind)
