Well he seems to be at the same stage as me. I am praying his arrives first or it could be the end of a beautiful friendship.

He‘s installed a Tesla wall charger - I‘m relying on the usual 13amp plug...
Careful there. I’ve had the X for about two months (amazing vehicle), and I got all of 1 month’s usage from the mobile connector before it shorted out in the rain. Replaced under warranty, but they warned me that it’s likely to happen again, and that the UMC is only meant for occasional use, and definitely not in the rain (despite ratings to the contrary). Apparently overuse can also cause problems.

Still using it daily, though, as I can’t see springing for a wall connector when I should be getting one for free soon (referral reward). Just hoping it stays more or less dry.

Approx 3000 to 4000 M3s are being offloaded at Zeebrugge every 4 days at the moment. Collect mine on Thursday...
I hope you enjoy the car from the moment you pick it up. Will you bring the number plates your self or is Tesla ordering them for you? I haven't heard anything about a formular 13.20 but my insurance contact said Tesla already contacted him with the necessary information. This leads me to believe that the number plates will already be installed when I pick mine up on Friday.

Re: Tesla Model 3 Fan Boy Thread

Just out of curiosity, since this is the Model 3 fanboy thread, do you guys really like that cockpit design with one central touchscreen that is used to change anything in the car? After sitting in one and driving around, I personally found it terrible.

I'm a Tesla fanboy, not just a Model 3 fanboy. I sat in a relative's Model 3 and found it really spacious. I'm used to the touchscreen functions from my Model S but am sure that my wife will complain about a lot of the things that used to have physical knobs / buttons on the Model S now requiring potentially distracting touches of the screen (e.g., manually adjusting wiper speed). Design wise, I love it.

I did also testdrive it last week, I honestly expected something worse. I still don't like it, but could get used to it for the nice features the car has...
I'm just not convinced yet if it makes up the price difference compared to a Leaf 60kWh (coming this summer).
It's also a pity, navigate on autopilot is not available in Europe yet.

The new leaf will be a great car. My cousin has a 10 year old leaf that is still driving well. Nissan replaced the battery and it became a new car again. If you’re in the market for a car, you should definitely drive a few.

I'm wondering about the distinction between operating a tablet like that or your mobile phone. Operating the phone while driving is forbidden, shouldn't going through all the icons on a tablet like that not be forbidden too ? You will need to take your eyes of the road and refocus (man I'm getting old) to operate the ventilation on the tablet, while with knobs you just feel your way around...

What if I take my old beater car and install a Samsung 7" tablet for music and navigation ? Will that be allowed too ? Maybe the distinction is in fixed mounted versus handheld ?

Abfab, do you have your car ? How do you like it ? Waiting for a report here !

Re: Tesla Model 3 Fan Boy Thread

It is the same as using a car navigation system, stereo system, Apple CarPlay, etc. even turning on hazard lights in many cars requires a look away from the roads.

Re: Tesla Model 3 Fan Boy Thread

Picking up my M3 this morning (28.2). Received a form 20.13 A from Tesla 2 days ago. This is the import document. My insurance company said the garage should handle this. I said there is no garage as we understand it.

The form was incorrect as it had the power figure as 340. But this is PS and the form has only Kw.

Anyway, the Strassenvehrsamt were happy with the form and issued a new grey card for the M3 valid from today and stamped my trade-in as expiring today. I‘m transferring the plates...

Oh, I don't have a car yet so am trying to figure out whether I need to get plates myself or if Tesla will organise them for me.

It‘s all a bit disorganised. But if Tesla supply you with the import form 20.13A you can collect new plates at the Strassenverkehramt and take them with when you pick the car up. If you not already in the computer system you will need to take as much ID and bits of paper as possible...

It looks a great car, hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of it! I'm trying to get the missus to learn to drive so I have an excuse to add one to our S!

Re: the questions on centralized tablet for Navigation etc - most of the settings can be changed via a thumbwheel on the steering wheel. Once you get used to the layout, you can press the aircon on/off without looking too. If you need something more complex, in town, easy, wait until lights or a natural pause in traffic. If on motorway, wait until it is relatively clear, engage autopilot and do your thing quickly.

Re: Tesla Model 3 Fan Boy Thread

I saw one of these in wild a few weeks back, and the exterior looks very nice. I was surprised that it is still quite a big car, given it's status as the smaller model. Very similar to Model S in many respects. Interior did look rather basic, but functional, and nice to see they retain a panoramic roof.

I just wish they had gone for a more typical hatchback design as this is by far the most practical for carrying larger items.

I called Tesla who told me they have organised the number plate for me.

Ouch! It was actually supposed to be called Model E but Ford had rights to all "E" labels.
funny story on this one.

Elon wanted model S, then model X then model E to spell out S-E-X... but alas as you mention Ford had the rights to "E" labels so he settled for model 3 spelling S-3-X...close enough I guess

You forgot the crossover, Model Y, also.

True but I think those were announced after S, X, and 3. I might be wrong but the anecdote I mentioned is a well known story that was also written about in Ashley Vance's biography
