...also, the time to charge can be an issue. although I guess with a 30-40 minute stop, i guess you could make a significant charge?
30 - 40 minutes at a Tesla Supercharger is too long! As GenevaSculler says, you aim to come in with about 20% and leave with 80%. Charging from 80 - 100% takes as long as 20% to 80%.

abetterrouteplanner.com will give you an idea. I prefer Tesla's own sat-nav that will show the Superchargers you can reach with the charge you already have. It shows how many stalls are available and pre-conditions the battery pack as you approach the Supercharger for faster charging.

That all said 98% of my charging is at home...

Our Model X is currently taking an hour to supercharge from 20%–80%!!! And as previously mentioned, the range estimates are a total lie as far as our car is concerned. We're getting range loss of around 40% quite consistently. That means that starting with the battery at 80% and driving the car to 20%, the stated range is 312 km, whereas we achieve only about 180 km. That's appalling.

On top of that, the 220V charger cable suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason.

I sincerely hope that our car has a significantly defective battery that will be replaced under warranty. This is no fun at the moment.

2019. It's barely two months old and has been woeful, range-wise, from day 1.

So, it's a "Raven" model?

Those should be a bit more efficient.

That said, I would avoid to charge with a 220V cable at almost all cost.
The voltage transformer is apparently very inefficient at that level (so you waste a lot of energy (and money) while charging) and the 220v household-outlets aren't really made for drawing that much power over such a long time.

AFAIK, all other SUV-type EVs from other manufacturers are even more inefficient.
They might charge faster, though (in case of the eTron). Or slower (iPace).

Sell it. Some bloke on this forum is selling an Audi Q7 V8 TDI. Pretty sure you can get that for 65% of the price.

Complain HARD. Tesla are fob-off experts if their forums are to be believed.

As posted a couple of pages back, this is the sort of time for 10% to 60% Supercharging my Model 3:

That depends on the car (or better: its battery (size and cell-chemistry) and the temperature of said battery), the current state of charge, the state of charge you want to achieve and the charger itself.

The amount of energy that a Model 3 consumes over 100km is AFAIK equivalent to about 2l of Diesel. The "problem" is that the energy-density of Diesel is currently unsurpassed. BEVs have a comparatively small "tank".

I don't think I'll buy another ICE-vehicle after this one. Hoping to drive it until one can by a Model Y.
energy density is what makes me a bit sceptical about battery EVs overall.

i'd wish someone would come up with a good way to electrify all the main roads then cars could run directly on it and not need to carry a huge battery which is less efficient and also not good for the environment.

Re: Tesla Model 3 Fan Boy Thread

According to this test:
https://www.adac.de/rund-ums-fahrzeu...tos-adac-test/

Model X 100D should be able to do 400km easily.

AFAIK, it's not a big problem to run down the battery below 10% on a trip. It's just a problem if you do it every time.

There's a video from Bjĝrn Nyland testing a Model X Raven:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wu48rQ2vJms

I don't think he did a 1000 km challenge with it though. And he only drove 90 km/h with it (but that isn't too unrealistic in Switzerland anyway, with all the speed-limits and construction going on...)

I'd look for advice on reddit or one of the larger English-speaking Tesla-forums.

If you can write German, there's TFF and motor-talk.de.

Re: Tesla Model 3 Fan Boy Thread

Thanks for all the input and advice.

Yes, it's a Raven, and yes, I'm going to complain. Very hard. I have kept a log of my charging experience to prove the range loss. Tesla can confirm it with their remote diagnostics or of course, on site when I take the car to the service centre on Monday (had to wait two weeks for an appointment).

Re. charging with the 220V cable, I accept that it may be inefficient, but it's also supposed to be kindest to the car's battery. And thousands of owners in the US charge at home from 120V outlets.

I'll let you know what happens...

Re: Tesla Model 3 Fan Boy Thread

I remember a thread on motor-talk where the charging-efficiency was discussed.
I don't remember the exact outcome, but I think the sweet-spot was a bit below the 16A provided by CEE16 plugs.

From all I have gathered, it seems to be best to use something like a Juice Booster 2 from a CEE16 plug and just limit the power-draw, if you want to "go easy" on the battery.

My guess (again, from forum postings) would be that the 220V plug was a bit dirty at some point and that seems to be enough to create problems.
That fact that it stopped working is more a sign that it prevented further damage to the socket and the rest of electrical installation IMO...

If you want to continue to use 220V, maybe try further reducing the power-draw?

That's a possibility, but the charging rate is sooooooo slooooooooooooooooow already; although we generally know well in advance when we're taking a long trip and therefore will need a full battery, I'd rather have a faster charging experience, just in case. So a wall box it is, I guess. But we'll still need the 220V cable, of course, for emergencies; another thing for Tesla to replace.

Re: Tesla Model 3 Fan Boy Thread

I'd consider just installing a CEE16 outlet and use Juice-Booster2.
Or at least, do a cost-comparison between that and a "normal" wall-charger.

At least, that's what I'm considering for when I order my electric car.

But I agree that a wall-charger is the most "neat" and tidy thing to have.

Re: Tesla Model 3 Fan Boy Thread

The buzz is now Tesla shares (TSLA). Kicked of some 10 years ago at $19. After reaching over $300 they slumped back to $190 last summer. Today? They just hit $780 !!

Should I sell??

Too late to buy Bitcoin, so you may as well hold (or hodl). What did you pay for them?

Nope. I'm in for the long game. Ask me again in 3 or 4 years...
