this is false according to my tesla rep. I signed a lease a couple of weeks ago and I was reassured that here in Switzerland I can buy out the lease.

Does anyone have a different experience?
Yes, that’s correct if leased through Swissquote for sure.

Well, if you are right, then I’m wrong, obviously.

What does your contract say?

Re: Tesla Fan Boy Thread

Nothing in the contract seem to explicitly say that I can't buy it out, but nothing says that I can either. I guess it doesn't matter to me anymore as I didn't really have any other choice and the contract is signed already.

Anyways... I got my VIN number today! overall it took exactly 1 month (27.06-27.07) to get it, I will be picking up the car on the second/third week of august

Re: Tesla Fan Boy Thread

Not sure if the app has been mentioned here yet, but I’ve been using Tessie to monitor things on my model 3. It provides a lot of useful info in terms of charging and battery degradation. It’s also got an Apple Watch app that means you can control your car via the watch. I can open the trunk or the windows with siri for example. It’s been used more than I expected actually.

If you use this link you get a free month: https://tessie.app.link/QdirNG3r0rb

I think I’ll get free usage too if 10 people use the link but that seems unlikely and certainly not my motivation for recommending the app.

Re: Tesla Fan Boy Thread

It needs to be expressly written in to the contract what happens to the car at the end of the lease and if you have right to buy or not.

To my very limited knowledge, Tesla take the cars back whenever as they are more value than the remaining outstanding on the lease.

Run a simple calculation. What is a 4 year old Tesla worth today (if your lease is 4 years). What have you paid over 4 years and what is the residual value.

Ergo you don't have that option, the owner isn't obligated to sell nor is the price predetermined.

oh well, it is what it is. I guess it's unfortunate to a certain degree and I'll point it out to the tesla rep that assured me otherwise, but at the same time it's still going to be worth it, I don't think I would have changed my mind and shelled out 62k out of pocket. I'll just get the next tesla

Re: Tesla Fan Boy Thread

Tesla Road Trip

In 2019 I made my first trip to the UK in my then new Teslas Model 3. Now I’m just back from a run from the Zurich Oberland to Bergerac in western France. A trip of about 940kms each way, plus some driving around locally.

Firstly, there was absolutely no problem making this kind of trip, which we broke into 2 days of 4 to 5 hours driving each day.

For those who don’t know, EV batteries charge much faster when in a low state of charge (SoC). Thus when planning a route in navigation, the car, which knows the SoC at the start, will plan a route that runs the battery pack down to 20% or less and plan to charge to only around 60% thus minimising the time of the stop - as low as 10 minutes.

The first thing that people always ask is “how far can you drive and how long does it take to charge?” My answer is “how strong is your bladder and how long does it take to empty it?”.

I find a real-world range of 450 - 500kms is never used in one go. After 2 to 3 hours behind the wheel, I need a break and more than a 10-minute one. So I set the charge limit to 100%, which will usually mean a 45-minute charge.

If you overstay Tesla will charge you for blocking a bay. If a coffee and rest stop takes say 30 minutes, this is no problem the car will be over 80% charged and that means at least 360kms range added.

The cost of charging for the Franch trip with 100% SoC leaving home was total of CHF148.00. I was billed in CHF for € purchases. The return trip with a 30% SoC to start and 50% SoC back home.

Autoroute costs totalled CHF110.85.

The location of Tesla Superchargers is somewhat eccentric. Sometimes they are in motorway services - like Lully in the Swiss Romand - other times they are in hotel parking lots off the highway. Either way, the sat nav directs you to the spot.

The hotels were rather nice and we were able to get a coffee and use the toilets free of charge (unlike to CHF1.00 charge per person at Lully). If you travel with kids there are often swimming pools at the hotels that you can use.

Obviously, Musk and his team decided from the outset that range and charging were the obstacles to the adoption of EVs and set out to slay the myth. The number of Tesla stalls is always overkill and we never had to wait, unlike those using the 4 Ionity charger at Lully, where Tesla has 10.

We had a very leisurely breakfast just outside Mâcon in France where there are 20 bays and a rustic restaurant with a view over the river. Mine was the only car charging there!

I would never contemplate such a trip in any EV but a Tesla. The number of out-of-service non-Tesla chargers we saw in France was heartbreaking. They even had motorway signs announcing the fact that the next services were without charging.

The car showed a dramatic difference between Swiss highways at 120kph limit and French ones at 130kph. I usually drive a couple of KPH over the limit. In France the Tesla used 198watts/km and Switzerland 168watts/km.

France is a dream to drive through, but it costs. The CHF40 Vignette brought our only queues, between Bern and Zurich and around the Zurich Bordering of course...

We had two leases that didn't expressly write in the contract our right to buy, and we bought the cars at the end without any problems. We just informed the banks that we wanted to keep the cars.

The first time we didn't even know this could be an issue. Last month we just took another lease for a car and we specifically asked and we were told it's normal for the lease taker to have first dibs on the car. The sales guy was actually surprised at the question.

Now this is no legal advice and I have no idea if it's always true or not, but this has been our experience. We fretted a little with the first lease, because we had a very low final payment, well below the value of the car, and it was obviously in the bank's interest to not sell it to us but it turned out to be fine.
