This is coming in the Y just announced and after an upcoming test drive in a 3, I think I will go ahead and reserve a Performance Y

The HUD & carplay are two things I would've prioritized but it otherwise ticks just about every box I was hoping for in an electric vehicle
Carplay? The European spec Model 3 comes with DAB+, Spotify and Tunein internet radio - plus you can stream from your phone...

MP3 music streaming is only one advantage with bluetooth but Carplay with an iOS device is really a great option - it's more of a 'nice to have' feature or the ability for Tesla's OS to download apps (i.e. Waze)

A quick search reveals a lot of Tesla owners have been lobbying for this, surprised it hasn't happened tbh but perhaps the Apple proprietary tech makes the cost of licensing it prohibitive which would make

Re: Tesla Model 3 Fan Boy Thread

Could you all paint a grill on the front, the full smooth surface makes me uncomfortable. Or even colour it a shade darker than the rest of the car.

In seriousness though, I've started seeing a load of 3's around, considering they're barely out it's very noticeable.

No. It would spoil the aerodynamics and in 10 years most cars will be without a radiator grill (and radiator)...

A bit of paint would hardly kill the aerdynamics on the car. The model S and X have fake grills that appear to be black glass for hiding radar.
In the press for the car they often had the "grill" section of the nose shaded or only used dark colour options. Now that I think about it I might have just seen them at a funny angle on the road with the sun in their face.

I would say "grill" has to be some kind of lattice, a la old cars with radiators.

With the advent of 3D printing, you can already replace the "grill" section on all Tesla models (it's just a bit of placcy after all) - there are companies offering it already (...first hit on Google, I think it's ugly as!) ...

Yes, and what about no exhaust pipes? It‘s so odd without them. Maybe I could paint some on??

I'm not so sure about the exhaust pipes, they have more of a chance to ruin the aerodynamics of the car, could cost you more than a few miles per gallon.

I think it's a very pretty car inside, and from most angles outside, just the front makes me feel funny with the large unbroken area. It looks smoother than the front of an aircraft!

In the future I'll add smileys to the sarcasm, or a bunch of exclamation marks. Enjoy your new cars.

Re: Tesla Model 3 Fan Boy Thread

Does the model 3 have the option to play fake engine noise through the audio system ? Such than you can choose, V8, V-twin, 6-in line etc ?

I remember proposing this for the car radio line when still working for Philips, in the 90-ies...

With the daft new EU regs, there will need to be some driving noise - maybe Elon will get creative and let you do something like this

I think they should paint faces on the front like Thomas the Tank Engine.

You could then personalise your own with a name: Tracy the Tesla or Terence the Tesla...

Re: Tesla Model 3 Fan Boy Thread

@AbFab , what's your early impressions with a few weeks on the road with the Model 3?

I have come across some minor complaints/concerns and curious how your experience compares. Wind noise with the panorama glass? Seat comfort for longer trips?

Re: Tesla Model 3 Fan Boy Thread

yay yet another fan thread

I deposited my first 1000 CHF on the 2nd April 2016, only to realize 2.5 yrs later that the "cheap Tesla", that was supposed to cost 35k, still costs 70k... then I looked at the Model S's excessive amortization and I deciced to hold back. Actually I'm gonna give back my reservation since we waited for nothing, current orders have zero disadvantage over that of a reservation holder from 2016.

I'll be happy buying our next ICE car for under 20k and drive it happily for another 5-8 years, then we'll look at it again.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Tesla fan. It just doesn't make (financial) sense - yet.

Re: Tesla Model 3 Fan Boy Thread

Just don't believe the PR too much, there is no such thing as reliable standalone autopilot currently in any car, Tesla including. Enhanced cruise control with lane assist wouldn't sell so well and wouldn't look so good on Twitter, although that's what it is. Tesla doesn't even use LIDARs, which are currently best vision tech for cars, probably because they would add too much cost.

Tech to achieve this 100% reliably, mainly software part is not there yet for many non-standard cases. Deaths from this are rare, but please don't add up to the statistics.

I‘m delighted with the Model 3! Yes the autopilot (lane assist), adaptive cruise control and park assist are not better than my 51/2 year old Golf 7. But future software updates and new computer on the way will improve this.

Noise is the same at the Golf. But with no engine, you hear other things.

Yes it‘s expensive and really shouldn‘t be as there is far less involved in building an EV than an ICE. Also charging stations need to be as common as petrol stations. All this will come

I‘d say Tesla is about 3 years ahead of old-school car manufacturers attempts at EVs with the Model 3. Watch out now for a more efficient and longer range Model S and X.

I would not only buy another Tesla, I cannot see myself ever buying an ICE powered vehicle again...
