My neighbor scratched my car

This morning I discovered my car with a big scratch on the side:

https://imgur.com/a/CmF98OM

Now I'm 99% sure this was my neighbor since his car was parked there as usually at 20:00 yesterday and my car was by then unscratched. Also the scratch has his car's color mark.

He didn't left a note and when he's gone, he is usually gone for 2-3 weeks (what if he fixes the scratch on his car in this meantime?).
  • I don't have his contact. Should I leave a note to contact me and wait till he's back?
  • Should I contact my insurance asap and explain the situation?
  • Police! And ask them to put him down with a taser?

Edit: His car isn't there. He scratched mine while leaving.

Re: My neighbor scratched my car

Happened to my neighbors car the other night, my wife left the door ajar while getting something out of the boot, and a strong gust of wind (it was very windy) blew the door into the neighbors car.

I filed an online report with my insurance, your neighbor should do the same.

Take pictures.

Your insurance and hopefully you have your neibour’s plate number. Let the insurance companies deal with it. That‘s what they‘re for...

I don't know the plate number. But his address. Maybe that helps?

Report it to the police, as he ran off without informing you.

Call him or leave him a note in his postbox. Maybe he didn't notice or was in a hurry. This should't be such a big deal here because people usually have a third-party liability coverage.

That's the problem I'm concerned. When he's out, he's out for weeks... Only have his landline number (again, he ain't home).

Re: My neighbor scratched my car

We had this problem with our neighbour 2 or 3 times (that woman can't park, seriously*...) but it was solved through insurances.

If you can't find him, maybe you should talk with your insurance and ask what to do next. You can ask the garage (or Hauswart or landlord) about his plate.

*Now I see she switched places with her husband...it took her a lot of time to figure out this solution. Sometimes you just want to cry for the future of humanity.

This should't be such a big deal here because people usually have are legally required to have third-party liability coverage.

Unless it's not yet again something that varies from one canton to another...kind of scared to say what applies in 100% of cases in CH. :-)

Re: My neighbor scratched my car

I think I will wait till this evening to see if he returns and check the mark on his car and talk with him. If he doesn't return, I'll call my insurance.

It does not vary canton to canton, you cannot register a car without 3rd party liability in Switzerland!

Actually, this doesn't look deep, I bet that most if not the whole thing can be polished away.

Good luck chasing your neighbor.

I thought so. But then again, it's hard to explain why some run off without leaving their contact details. (yeah I know, it must be the dam' furiners...)

Because if they have a lot of claims their insurance premium goes up or the insurance company may terminate their contract.

If he didn't notice that, he shouldn't be driving at all !!!

One explanation. My feeling is some didn't even reach that level of complaints (and probably never will), they are acting like that simply because they can get away with it. When he's your neighbour and you have proof, he can't though. (I hope)
