Half-fare travelcard worth for one-day weekend trips?

I've used the Halbtax in the past and it was really convenient, especially when regularly traveling between cities for business. My situation has changed and I'm wondering whether it's worth having.

Currently I have a year travel card to commute to work, where the Halbtax does not help me at all, and in principle I am not expected to commute longer for work. It also covers my usual walks around the city, as it covers some big tariff zones.

I am planning to go on multiple trips around Switzerland to see the mountains, the landscapes and hike. Since everything is so close by train, I'm planning to visit my desired place/city during the day and return at night, instead of staying outside. I can see two possibilities:
  1. Get the Halbtax and combine it ideally with supersaver tickets (plus the regional day tickets).
    • I have seen that the SBB offers 1. Class Saver Day passes with Halbtax for even CHF 49.- which is a pretty sweet deal.
  2. Get Day passes from my municipality for CHF 45.-, even without the Halbtax.
My instinct tells me that option #2 is better and more flexible, but of course limited by the day passes the municipality has to offer. A 1/2 round-trip ticket on the same day between major cities (e.g., Zürich-Basel, Zürich-Chur) is already CHF 30--40.-

Thoughts?

Maybe keep an eye on your municipality website and observe how the tickets go? In my muni, weekends are often gone well in advance so there are no tickets left.
