I don't think it makes sense to make it a compulsory feature at this point, it just increases the price.
| | | | | At what point will it make sense?

pricewise... I bought a 11090 chf base model Citroen C3 (taking delivery this coming friday). It has ABS and electronic stability, I think the stability control gives it the capability to brake wheels electronically. Also as standard it has speed sign recognition and will show the last observed sign on the display. Finally it has (also standard) cruise control and an electronic speed limiter (which I use often as it allows me to pay attention to the road in the city, without needing to look at the speedo).
Anyway, point is, an 11kchf car already has all the components for road sign based speed limiting, so 'price' is not an argument against it.
I do not have high hopes though about this sign reading stuff working flawlessly.

They missed the most important thing: Instead of fatigue detection, they should make a camera mandatory which detects distraction while driving. A 100dB siren should sound if the driver even lifts his phone. | Quote: | | | | | It's all safety stuff that keeps morons safe who play with their phone while driving. | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | It’s all safety stuff that will keep Me safe, when morons play with their phone while driving. | | | | | | The following 2 users would like to thank EPMike for this useful post: | |

Anybody already told environmental activists that in the future they can block highways with stickers?

My moron buttons are integrated in the steering wheel.
1 to take the call
2 for volume
1 more to hang up! |

Hopefully there'll be an option somewhere in the setup menu to change over to miles.... | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | My moron buttons are integrated in the steering wheel.

And the rear view cameras are a pain in the arse. We have one parking space here where - according to such a camera bleeping - one would never be able to leave again. |

Volvo will limit its cars to max 180 km/h as of 2020: https://europe.autonews.com/automake...-safety-target
Bold plan. Next question then is why should a car have more than 150 bhp, or why should you buy anything else then the basic engine?

b) so some muppets can blip their throttles as they go through the Swiss tunnels or between traffic lights in Zurich on Sunday afternoons.

That beep is likely from an "ar" device - not a radar/lidar at that range but likely a sonar. Congratulations (I guess) if this means your car has both! |

| | Re: Planning on a new car? Might want to wait | Quote: | | | | | EU is planning to make 11 car safety feature mandatory in 2021. https://www.theweek.co.uk/93687/eu-l...tory-from-2021
So those now extra cost safety features will be standardized.
However, on the other hand I don't know if I want my car to be forcing me to do the exact speed limit and telling me to go back to bed on my morning commute. | | | | | This is super useful post, why can't I thank the poster?

2. The thread is two years old - thanks and groans are only available for a limited time on new posts.
