Bought it new in the US in '85, brought it here with me in '86, rode a year here on US plates, picture is from a month ago (it's no longer stock).

Mine was I think an 83, white. K&N filters which gave a beautiful steam engine sound. Drilled out exhaust. Cali 2 handlebars and a BMW R27 floaty seat.

Re: The real cost of running a car in 2019 ?

Would have cost too much to move and put through the MFK... lots of parts missing (like airbox), not original (pipes) or damaged (speedo, multiple fins missing from cilinders and heads).

It ran great, i loved the thing but objectivelt speaking it was piece of junk (and i still miss it, my favorite bike ever)

Thpught about getting a V7 or V9, but those just dont have 'it'....

Re: The real cost of running a car in 2019 ?

I borrowed the pipes, carbs, and airbox to pass the test.

Ironically, from the bike that I later acquired ('91) once I had kids to put the sidecar on!

(I knew both previous owners)

Re: The real cost of running a car in 2019 ?

I leased a Porsche Cayenne a couple of years ago and made a spreadsheet to track the spend every month.

In my case:
* Monthly lease ( CHF 834)
* Car wash (20 CHF)
* Accessories ( 40 CHF)
* Warranty (145.2 CHF)
* City parking (30 CHF)
* Tyre change ( 200 CHF) -- once in 6 months
* Insurance (159.60 CHF)
* Road tax ( 85.67 CHF)
* Vignette ( 3.33 CHF)
* Maintenance ( 49.35 CHF)
* Fuel (200 CHF)
* Garage parking ( 120 CHF)

The beast cost me on average 1600 CHF / month

Note: The things highlighted in Pink are the lumpsum payment that I split by months.

Send me a PM and I will forward you the spreadsheet I manage.

Petrol: Cheapest for short- to medium drives on the countryside (few stops and go's)

Diesel: Best for long distance drives (and cheap at the moment due to the Diesel scandal)

Hybrid: Best for stop&go in the city with occassional longer distances

Electric: Cheapest if you can use free electricity at work to charge it Otherwise more expensive in buying but less expensive in running compared to similar expensive cars, great acceleration (but keeping distance in mind)
You can buy an electric bmw i3 for around 15k at the moment, it has decent interior space, an ok range, and a 3 cylinder petrol range extender if you need it. The car didnít change much since 2013 so the newer production years donít really make a difference.
