Can two travel on a multi ride ticket?

Please forgive me if this is a silly question, but I couldn't seem to find the answer on the ZVV site.

I have a multi ride (6 for the price of 5), half tax, 9 Uhr ticket. Can two travel together on this ticket if I punch two rides, or must each traveler have a separate ticket?

(Second traveler is a mutt, if that makes a difference.)

Thanks, from one who rarely ventures into the Big Smoke, and so is not au-fait with all the train ticket permutations. And our station is not manned, so no one there to ask...

I believe so if the mutt also has a half fare card

Re: Can two travel on a multi ride ticket?

Yes that is possible. You don't Need a Card per Person as Long as you travel together (not a Problem with your dog but maybe if you have visitors..). So it makes sense to buy the stamp Cards as they are cheaper. We always get some shortly before they increase Prices in December. They only have a limited validity, meaning they expire (the date is stated on the ticket). You can also get them from the machine.

Are we talking about Tageswahlkarte/Mehrfahrtenkarte? Where is it written that they can expire? Some of my cards have been bought 5 or more years ago and I'm still using them occasionally. If they really expire it would be good for me to know it because I still have some cards bought in 2012.

Funny, but I could not find the answer on the Internet. I couln't find any mention of the expiration date anywhere on the websites of SBB and ZVV, and the information on the other websites is very controversial.

I also couldn't find it online but in (older) newspaper articles is says they expire within 3 years. Have you checked both front and back? if they are very old maybe it doesn't state it yet. I belive on the ones you buy now it does have a date of expiry. Will ask my friend and post back

No expiry date on the physical cards, however, there is an expiry date if you buy an online ticket (at least in Luzern)

Re: Can two travel on a multi ride ticket?

In Bern, there is an expiry date on the top of the card that you purchase at a machine. It's listed as "Verfall". Tickets are valid for 3 years from the date of purchase.

Depending on the number of zones, once the ticket is stamped it is valid for 60 or 90 minutes. Mine says "Gultig 90 minuten".

And yes, you can stamp twice but both you and the mutt need half-tax cards if it's a half-tax multiple-journey ticket.

Happy travels!

Re: Can two travel on a multi ride ticket?

I thought dogs, children, and bikes were all 1/2 fare and don’t need a specific 1/2 tax card.

Re: Dates on multi-ride tickets:
I've looked at my tickets, bought at the counter, and while there is a date printed on the back of the tickets - 10 2016 or 5 2017 - that actually doesn't make sense. The tickets were purchased all at the same time, in December 2018. (Like other posters, I usually purchase several in December before the prices rise.)

Curious.

I, too, thought dogs (and children and bikes) are always half price.

From the SBB website :
Für Hunde jeder Grösse, die in Personen- oder Gepäckwagen mitgenommen werden, müssen Sie in allen Fällen den halben Preis für die 2. Klasse bzw. den allenfalls vorgesehenen Mindestfahrpreis (Hunde-Tageskarte, Hunde-GA) bezahlen.

and from the ZVV:
Für Hunde, die nicht in einer Tasche, einem Korb oder einem anderen geeigneten Behälter transportiert werden können, ist der ermässigte Fahrpreis 2. Klasse zu bezahlen oder ein NetzPass für Hunde (gleicher Preis wie NetzPass Junior) zu lösen.

You might be right. Here's what SBB says:

Re: Can two travel on a multi ride ticket?

But that means you simply need to buy the half fare ticket - you don't need a Halbtax for the animal, however. Oder?

(It's been many years since the mutts traveled by train - at least the above is how it used to be done. Happy to be corrected...)

Re: Can two travel on a multi ride ticket?

FYI, if you have a Halbtax card and half-price multi-ride ticket, you can also travel with a non-Halbtax companion if you punch the card 3 times.

The information on the back side of the tickets is printed when the blank is manufactured, while the front side is printed in the ticket machine during purchase. So the information on the back side cannot relate to the purchase.

BTW, the ink on the front side is not very stable. If you have the ticket with you all the time and it is in the constant contact with your wallet and other tickets, some parts of the text on the front side can disappear. So the tickets which are rarely used and should last for several years should be stored carefully, otherwise the text may wear off before you use all you rides.

For the rides within short range, like Localnetz tickets in ZVV, the difference between half-fare ticket and full-fare ticket is very small, much less than 50%.
