I've witness two car fires, both in my village, neither due to accidents.

As you mention, it was a good 15-20 minutes before the fire got to extreme to be easily put out, in neither case was there an explosion. Had I not been indoctrinated to believe that there was a serious danger of explosion, I would have grabbed an extingusher from work and walked over to put it out.

Tom
How many died? According to Tom you need an extinguisher to survive.

How can a fire extinguisher help when trapped inside of a burning car?

Sure, it can happen, no doubt. But how often does it?
It was in response to a post about how a fire could affect the locking mechanism, nothing to do with fire extinguishers. The fire extinguisher discussion is a an aside to the original topic of the thread.

No idea how often it happens, I’ll leave you to do your own research if it interests you.
