Maiden Name on UK Licence

Okay...I tried to search for this but couldn't find a thread so here goes.

My wife and I were married in 2017. At the end of the year she came over to Switzerland and has had a B permit since then in her married name. She had changed her name on all documents - or so I thought.

We missed the 12 months to exchange licences and were hoping to sneak it in at the SV in Zurich. While filling the form out I asked my wife for her licence. It's in her maiden name.

Does this give me a headache? Or rather an additional headache? We are not only hoping they forget about us missing the deadline - but also the documents have different names.

By the way she hasn't driven, no plans to actually drive yet, but wants the option.

Re: Maiden Name on UK Licence

To relieve you of one of the headaches:

The deadline to convert the license w/o any problem is 5 years.

After 12 months the license is void for driving in Switzerland and anywhere where you license which is valid in your country of residence.

Re: Maiden Name on UK Licence

OK. Maybe we should apply for a UK licence in her married name and take it from there.

I would just show the marriage certificate & see what they say.
You can't legally apply for a UK license if you are a non resident.

Re: Maiden Name on UK Licence

If you're just changing your name on your UK licence it should be very straight forward. It's not an application as the licence is already held; it's an admin thing. If the passport is in the married name you can probably do it online.

Re: Maiden Name on UK Licence

I think you can just go along with the various paperwork and they'll just issue one directly in the new name. (Birth and marriage certificates, plus ausweis, passport and UK licence).

Pretty sure we were in a very similar situation when my wife first came over. I know that her passport was still in her maiden name for some longer time, but she got the driving licence done almost straight away even without that being changed.
