buying monthly tram pass, zurich

I want to buy a monthly tram pass, using the automated machines at the tram stops.

I Originally was taught how to do this when I was at the HB from an SBB representative.

I then went back to my "normal" tram stop and the automated system did not have the same button-words on them.

I'm trying to be self sufficient but every time I try and use the machine at my local stop I'm confused.

Any help would be appreciated --- and seriously, why are the words different from the machine at the HB to my local machine.

Because SBB is one company and the tram company is another company and whilst they inter react and share services, they are still independant and use different equipment.

Re: buying monthly tram pass, zurich

There are videos on how to use both types of machine, on youtube in English. You can also buy the tickets online and have them loaded onto your Swiss Pass.

But this is a feature I didn't know about...

Quote:
Telecontrolled ticket machine

Customers can receive support by phone when purchasing a ticket at any ZVV machine. A member of the support staff telecontrols the machine directly from the customer centre and guides you through the ticket purchase.

Have you ever stood in front of a ticket machine and not found the right ticket? Next time, just call the free service line indicated on the ticket machine and have our customer service assist you. A member of our support staff takes over the telecontrol of the machine and guides you through the ticket purchase. The desired ticket is issued directly on site. The customer can pay for the ticket directly at the machine with cash or by using the usual credit or debit cards.

I've been searching Youtube but haven't found the video that shows how to purchase a Monthly pass.

I'd prefer the paper ticket (I'll be "sharing" it with a family member when I'm out of town).

Thanks for the help.

Well at a wild guess I go with the idea that it might not mean the same thing.

I was not aware that that was even possible.

Yes it's possible, I've had the attendant at the HB walk me through the process (more then once) and every time I get back to my normal "machine" I can't find the options.

They are nominative and not transmissible......

In Zurich it possible with monthly tickets. You have two options, personal and transferable (übertragbar). The transferable ticket costs slightly more but can be used by anyone.

I'm a techonphobe but even I can manage it (including entering all the details on my Halbtax card). If you're passing the Viadukt come in and see me and I'll help you with the machine outside at Dammweg.
