Extension of 12 month EU car

Hi there,

I moved to Switzerland 5 months ago and brought my car with me. When crossing the border I have imported my car into Swtizerland by visiting the customs at the border.

Now I'm second thoughts about keeping my car here. I dont want to export it back to EU yet. I might just keep the car in the EU for a while and bring it back to Switzerland at some point.

Is any of you aware of a method where I can legally extend the 12 months period a bit?

Thanks.

Short answer no. But you can always contact them and ask.

.
Yes. I did it and they granted an extension. I argumented that I'm only able to drive the car back to my home country in 3 month time and they were happy to extend and charge a fee of course (150 CHF for the 3 months as far as I remember). Contact the Stva relevant to your canton of residence.

The car has already been imported into CH. Do I still need to contact the customs office for an extension? STVA is obviously different entity so not sure where to contact for an extension where my car will stay legal for a little while.
