Re: Air France to London City

I noticed the other day that Swiss have offers from London City to Basel, Geneva and Zurich from £68

Re: Air France to London City

Air France does fly to LCY. However all is well if the flight leaves on time and there are no problems, i.e. bad weather at LCY) fog etc. However if things go wrong, they do not take care of you. SWISS/ BA have more frequent flights to all London airports and are therefore able to put passengeres on more alternatives flights, for example being sent to Gatwick or Heathrow instead of LCY if there is bad weather. Also Air France is bad for families with young kids, they do not allow prams to be taken air side (massive problem if there are delays and you have a heacy little kiddo !). Air France also used to have a competitive fare, however SWISS and BA often match this, I have also decided to always fly SWISS if the difference is less than 100 CHF. Its a better service, kinder to kids and they have more comfortable seats, almost 20% bigger !!

Re: Air France to London City

I flew on the CityJet/Air France flight recently and was impressed. Efficient, good service, babe Air hostesses for added value, and the food wasn't bad for the short haul either. City is also a nice easy airport for processing and getting into the centre. It get's a thumbs up from me as a single traveller.

Re: Air France to London City

I flew London City-Zurich every other week between October and June, and always had good service. The great thing is that the fares don't seem to change with time, so you can book your ticket 1-2 days before and still get the regular price.
On top of this, as others have mentioned, it is extremely convenient to get into central London from City Airport.

* For Flying Blue members - if you are Silver and above, you can get a food voucher from the Air France counter (at City Airport); it can be used in most food shops after security.

Re: Air France to London City

I've made an impressive 16 flights either in or out of London City in the last 2 months with British Airways and their service is pretty poor. I think 2 of the flights have been on time and BA are the only airline that ever seem to have flights marked as "delayed" on the departures board. It's pretty frustrating watching all the Air France and Swiss flights leaving to Zurich on time every time, while I sit in City airport with nothing more than a 5 pound voucher to console me. I'll certainly be flying with Swiss next time.

City Airport itself however is excellent. If you're heading into London itself then its very easy to do, and if you're transferring on to another destination then the fact the airport is tiny make life very easy. I've literally transferred at City Airport without breaking stride!

Re: Air France to London City

I used to fly Cityjet regularly when I lived in Dublin and was always impressed, I flew them Zürich to London this weekend. Outbound there was a BA flight to City at the same time that was delayed, inbound there was a Swiss flight at the same time that was delayed.

Coming out of City Yesterday was frustrating because their check in system had completely failed so they had to check in everybody manually. The flight still took off on time though.

I really rate Cityjet, better short haul than BA and just better than the woeful Swiss Air, IMO.

They publish their punctuality stats on their website BTW.

Re: Air France to London City

only last Thursday, BA had to punt my missus onto the last Swiss flight as the last BA flight bit the dust somehow.

No sympathy nor explanation were offered.

BA is, in my opinion, to be avoided.

Would Cityjet do the same in the worst case is the question you must ask yourself........

On an LCY-topic, Friday evenings are horrid in that airport. It is now over-subscribed and understocked with regards to seating and noshing areas. It will be interesting to see what the minor renovations bring.....

I don't know the answer to that since I have never had a problem with them. I have flown at least as many Cityjet flights as others since 2004 and never had one cancellation. Swiss on the other hand have cancelled 2 flights on me since 2006 and I've had untold delays with them too.

Re: Air France to London City

re: babe hostesses on airlines. Research has shown that the Business travellers (predominantly male, aged 35-45) who provide the serious revenue for the full-service airlines, like it and will pay for it. It also avoids the airline's seniority expenses. Whether they do actually provide the best on-board service is another question...

The renovations are complete now and there's loads more space. When you come through security next time, turn left instead of right and you'll find a nice bar/lounge area with plenty seats.

Mind you, BA are starting flights from LCY to New York which will probably leave the airport short of seating again.

I disagree with you there regarding Airfrance flights to London City. They do allow you to use your pram up to the point of boarding the plane. We have used the airline several times with kids and we have not experienced any problem with prams and their services. They also allow you to change your flight dates by only paying a standard fee unlike Swiss which sometimes do not allow change. Much cheaper than BA and Swiss

Re: Air France to London City

It certainly will, until they realise the service is unreliable as the A318 can't get airbourne with a full load and fuel in anything other than perfect conditions (at LCY). The interim refuelling stop to alleviate this will completely **** up the business case...

I suspect that service will be so unreliable even the pilot's will tire of saying "lady's and gentlemen, today you have two flights for the price of one"

I agree, Air France is fantastic for travelling with kids. Took my pram right to the gate too. They had the nicest crew who said I could wait until after the safety demo to put my toddler in his seat and buckle him in. They even asked me if I needed anything - twice.

Well they always planned on stopping at Shannon anyway. However, what i didnt realise was that there's only going to be 32 seats on board, so the an impact on the number of people in the waiting lounge is not really a concern. The stop will add 1 hour 40 to total flying time, but for people coming from the city, this is probably still better than travelling to heathrow.
