Whilst I haven't heard of the Swiss police fining anybody for tailgating alone I have heard of occasions where they add extra fines to your speeding fine if you are tailgating and even more if you are in a large SUV.
.
I've heard the same. I know of someone who got a year ban for speeding and tailgating.

(according to him, the tailgating was definitely part of the reason for the ban).

Again: the table has two measurement points, but I guess they just take one picture for IDing the driver when necessary. They only charged for the "cheaper" of the two measurements.
Shouldn’t they then provide the other photo if they want to “prove” it? I’d certainly ask to see it.

Not a good look for the OP though, sat in the over taking lane for 2.5km and not returning to the right hand lane.

Additional fine because you are in a large SUV? Yeah right
It's logical on the basis that the bigger the car the more momentum it has and therefore the more damage it can do.

This never happened, there is no law with fines based on the weight of the vehicle.

I wish they did this in Switzerland - home of the passive aggressive tailgater...
They do, they even have cameras. A colleague was banned for 3 months some 15 years ago based on photo evidence.

At the time there was a lot of publicity about planned use of these cameras but they seem to have stopped using them! Rumour is they were scared of the political sh#tstorm when 90% of Swiss drivers were banned!

I wish that this would also apply to Swiss roads. I have to deal with constant tailgating in the highways in here - even on areas where there is only one lane and we are driving at the speed limit, even while raining.

Probably your car's speedo over-reads so you're always the one in front doing 10% less than the limit.

a) The guy in front of you being slower than you would wish is not excuse for tailgating, a manoeuvre that puts everyone at risk

b) There is no reason to not keep enough distance to the car in front of you. If you are incapable of holding your temper or keeping concentration while driving, take the public transportation.

c) My car's speedometer is fine, thank you.

Just plain aggressive; there's nothing passive about it.

I was tailgated this morning at a distance of about 5m (I guess—my rear vision mirror was completely full of truck grille) at 100 km/h (bang on the speed limit)—in the right hand lane of the motorway! The moron pulled out to overtake me just as the road started going uphill, leaving himself far behind me and blocking the left lane. The truck was adorned with the company name "SIDLER", in case anyone from there is reading this...

In my experience, by far and away the worst tailgaters are the company van drivers. Either they're in a hurry to get to the next job or they just like dominating the road, seeing themselves as "professional" drivers.

Clearly they don't put much thought into it, given that the company name, number and website normally adorn the panels of the van so they could easily be shopped to their boss. D'uh!

Yep, excellent "advertisement" for that company. I especially "adore" the ones that drive on the left side in tunnels when not allowed and then suddenly turning right sharply in front of you...

I hear this over and over, but it does not appear to be the case with our car. They regularly install "your current speed is" devices and signs out this way shortly before they put up the mobile cameras to catch and fine people. I always glance at the speedo as soon as I see my speed shown on the sign, and the two almost always match.

It could get very expensive to assume one's speedo "always" overreads.

Probably right. Only this Sidler thing was a proper truck; one of those 35-tonne semi-trailers/artics. Maybe it was full of white vans.

By law, car speedometers must never read below the real speed. They almost always over-read. In very few cases (my car, for example), the speedo is bang-on exactly correct, but even then factors like temperature and tyre pressure can affect the reading.

Those roadside speed displays are most likely set to over-read, too, for the same reason: road safety. Better that drivers think they're speeding and slow down, than not.

Thanks for cheering me up!
So I should wait for the other show to drop?

But, bear in mind the speed sign is facing in the opposite direction, so it is not absolutely clear that speed in my direction of travel was limited to 120.
