You always seem to be trolling on the Englishforum, whatís your problem? I guess you got tired of attacking the guy who was worried about his wife? Nobody will talk to you in real life? Donít have anything better to do? My guess is you donít have a job either so donít have to deal with a sweltering commute.

How right you are my dear, no i don't commute to work, i don't need to thankfully

But i do use the trains quite a lot when i go for a walkabout in Switzerland which is quite often.

Try the boats, they're usually quite cool and relaxing

And if that means cancelling trains due to the power overload, sobeit!

Tom
Yes Tom that is exactly what I meant... push the a/c to the point where they overload the train and it stops and strands everyone. Makes perfect sense.

Every single day. Always with aircon, lights and a working lav...
Hmmm... Not been on the S16 lately? Conspicuously wet carriage floor and the lav out of order last week Last summer, I used to just get on a random tram if it was too hot. Can always turn round and come back when I've cooled down.

No, I was on a modern train yesterday that was over 40 C...the train attendant stated they were instructed to turn it off as they reached the quota allowed.

I was also stuck in the Bern mess (took 6 hours to get home). The train was sweltering, but when they announced the problem, it was suddenly cool again. The trains can indeed be pleasant if they turn the air on and keep it on.
What was the Bern mess anyway? Was there an answer? I wasn't there but a friend was stuck for hours.

VBZ trams (the ones that have A/C that is) are still cooled down to a reasonable temperature.

But I read the other day that their new buses will also follow that stupid 5 degree rule.

AFAIK there were some bent tracks due to heat.

Maybe SBB should start painting tracks white like the Italians do.

Re: SBB refuses to cool down trains in heat wave

I have a ~2h daily commute (each way), comprising S-Bahn and IC. As much as S-Bahn was amazing in air conditioning (I didn't want to get off at the destination), IC would make you assess better the borders of your mental capacity. On top of that, one morning they had cut the usual extra front cars of the train, leading to many people sitting in the stairs (You imagine the weather yourself).

The fact that Pro Bahn is intervening probably means I have not been an exception or a snowflake. The reason I didn't complain about it was exactly the attitudes like the one seen in this thread, answering everything with "why don't you go back to where you came from"...

Re: SBB refuses to cool down trains in heat wave

Everyone is always bitching and moaning about climate change. Now the SBB is doing something to reduce its energy use and again there is reason to complain ?

Cant we at least be consistent and not so hypocritical ?

If its too hot and there's no aircon, just dont take the train those days.

This is true. Or grow up in a place that doesn't believe in aircon. Simples.

A relative of mine was on a train recently from Bern to Zurich. Apparently it ground to a halt as there was some technical problem. As it was hot, it would appear that some males started removing their trousers

Not sure I would inflict that on anyone, not even in a heat wave!

Many people: "Saving the human living climate is good aslong as it does not cost me money or brings me discomfort, so fine if you want to stop doing things, but I demand my train to be cooled, and when I get home I shower for 20 minutes and then I throw a big piece of meat on the BBQ.."

Bas, common sense does not appear to be your forte.

Energy use and efficiency is obviously (like, so obviously that the fact you need it explaining to you is a little shocking) not more important than preserving health and human life during the relatively short yet intense period each year (ie: not long enough to make a significant difference where the temperatures are unbearable and dangerous to health.

Yeah, great idea Bas, lets not take public transport to where we need to go because we might randomly be on one that has insufficient cooling. Why not stay home all Summer... just in case?

To be fair, I don't think BasP72's comment was aimed at you, it just happened to be directly after your comment. I didn't see it as that way anyway.

I don't mind the no a/c at all but please allow all the windows to open, otherwise it risks the inside to be worse than the outside; or better yet, bring back the old trains with the functional windows. Not at all sure what is "improved" with the new trains anyhow...

If you sit or stand near-ish the door, there's usually a blower there coming out of the ceiling which might make it marginally cooler than, say, in the middle of the carriage.

Don't ever take the London Tube in summer, then.
I recall many days on the Central line jostling for the coveted spot on any carriage: front center of the car, back against the passageway door, window lowered. It was a hot, dust filled breeze, but a breeze none the less.
