MFK forgotten?

The Swiss authorities did not invite me for the MFK this year even though I was due for one.
I learnt from my colleagues someone did not get called for 10 years.
Is it normal?
Do I need to proactively inform the road authorities that I was due a test this year or enjoy the sun..:-p?

No, no need to provoke them.

I've gone 10+ years many times, longest was 14, and now have one bike with 11.

The last two were 6 and 7.

Problem is (if it is indeed a problem) no one will touch a second-hand car without an MFK, so the testing stations are stacked up with dealers and private sellers getting theirs tested...

Lucky you :)

I got called/received an invitation for the test two days after my "Expertise" expired! (Canton NE)

Yes that is normal. Heck you might not even get your letter in the next years.

Same question, same answer. The previous replies seem to have covered it, but in any case the minimum time between tests is 3 years, so you don't even have to think about it yet.

That's because a car is first tested once it's 5 years old.

Over 10 years it reduces in theory to 2 years.

That's because if you forgot to register your move to St. Gallen like on your profile here they don't know you're there. ;)
As others said: It depends on the age of your car and on their work load as well. I remember Zurich was once way behind schedule.

Basically part 2 applies.

Mine got called at about 5½ years in SG. But that can vary from one testing station to another even within the canton.

They are running late in Neuchâtel too.

Since the Swiss don't do much DIY car repairs & use main dealers even for old cars, the vats majority of cars would just pass with an engine clean.

As I decided to sell my 2014 Smart last November and still hadn't received a letter about the MFK I called. Apparently the letter had just gone out and it was in my letterbox that day. It was well over 5 years, closer to 6.

Re: MFK forgotten?

Many of the cantons have serious backlogs in calling in vehicles for the checks. Last time I went with my wife's vehicle, I chatted to the mechanic, who was more friendly than most are, and he explained they go after older cars, saying that most new cars these days aren't a problem.
In any case, don't worry about it. It's a case of "don't call us, we'll call you".
