it looks like it would be a fun car to drive for a day, if it didn't kill, but you wouldn't want to live with it and you certainly wouldn't want anyone you know seeing you in it, let alone knowing you bought one.

the moped of the car world lol
Common.. it's not that bad

don't want to burst your bubble but they did a tear down of a tesla and for build quality, engineering etc it came out the same as a 20 year old kia or hyundai, you know, when they where both a bit cheap and nasty.

So no, in those terms they are not ahead, also not ahead in actually making any money.

the only thing they are ahead on is cramming as many batteries in a small space as possible

"When a Michigan-based consulting agency dismantled a Model 3, that is exactly how the owner described the brand new EV. Likening it to a “Kia in the ’90s,” the technician criticized the car’s gaps and generally lackluster quality. Green Car Reports wrote that Model 3 “build quality was the worst we have seen on any new car from any maker over the last 10 years.”"

Its tech is OK, and was quite ahead of others for a while (but not for long more).
Its build is not.

Not bad for a poor man's sports car!

Another example of a poor man's sports car.
Had a AR 4C for three years. Not to many were built. Unfortunately had to sell it due to moving back to CH. I really miss that car.

that's not a poor man's sports car. it's a compact, lightweight great car.

And what does Tesla have that the competition wil not be able to offer the next couple of years?

No, but I have seen a person trying to park one backwards in a normal shopping center… very entertaining.

I would be scared to death to crack the carbon fiber tub.

The 4C was my DD. On my way to work I would see about 4,5 Corvettes every day. If you want something special you need to go for a limited production car.
BTW, the carbon fiber tub is very solid. Never heard of anyone had a crack on the 4C forums. Parking I agree, but why park backwards?

Every time I stepped into my 4C and heard the exhaust note it would put a big smile on my face.
P.S. Not a good idea to drive in NC in any car after drinking.
