I read a tweet from what looked to be a retired pilot saying that the seat behind wasn't safe due to not being able to perform the brace position correctly.
I thought the only actual reason for the brace position is to make it easier to identify the corpses after a crash...

Yes, to protect your teeth.
And also yes, the photo is fake, Easyjet wouldn't have allowed for anyone to take that seat, period.

I see nothing wrong with them operating with broken seats as long as they are not in use during critical phases of the flight; taxi, take off, landing or whenever the seat belt sign is on. And there is no suggestion that the were.

Click bait ...
Exactly.
I flew LAX-LAS on a broken seat with Delta back in '97 and was moved to a cabin crew jump seat. Few airlines would allow a flight to 'go tech' for the sake of one seat. Posted about a couple of years ago here https://www.englishforum.ch/internat...ml#post2771223

Well during boarding when this woman wanted to get out of the way of other passengers. But she wouldn't have been allowed to stay there.

I think the real story, which is who the hell and what was he drinking when he / she broke those seats, is much more interesting!
