Garage caused damage to decals on my car

Took my Mini Countryman for a service at a garage in Gland (Facchinetti Automobiles). During the service they washed it with high pressure jets and have damaged the decals on the front bonnet.

Do I have a leg to stand on asking them to repair the damage they have made? Initially they claimed that this kind of damage is common to the decals... but the fact remains they did it and I can't leave it as it is - it is very noticeable and has devalued the car in my opinion.

Re: Garage caused damage to decals on my car

I would not accept it if this was them doing it (no damage before).

Of course it is not easy to prove but on the other hand, we are in Switzerland and most people will be honest and admit the mistake... Especially that this is supposed to be a bit of premium BMW garage, not just a small private one, so their service should be premium as well.

Just write them an email, attach photos and ask them what they propose in this situation.

Keep us posted on how it goes - I am curious to see how good they are in handling this kind of cases.

It sounds harsh but in my experience you have to tell them what you expect and don't let them wriggle out of it.

Them claiming that the damage is common is bullshit on so many levels. If they know damage occurs "commonly" why did they power-wash it instead of wash it carefully with a cloth?

The fact is they damaged the car and should be responsible to fix it. Unless they have some bizarre clause in their T&Cs that absolves them of shredding decals on cars then the OP should be pretty stern with them.

Re: Garage caused damage to decals on my car

Be firm and insist they make good the damage. They did it, they are a main dealer and it's not a way to treat a customer. Of course they want to wiggle out of it, but tell them if they don't fix, you'll take it to another garage and send them the bill. If you're insistent I think they'll do what's right.

Re: Garage caused damage to decals on my car

Given the orange peel texture of the paint it's not the first time that panel has been damaged so it may well be whoever did the repair last time didn't do a good job which is why the decals were damaged so easily.

The worst thing one can ever say is "I will never use your service again." They lose all incentive to fix the problem.

When you are out of pocket because of their mistake, and they save money because of it, then that's dishonest.

(If they don't want to admit a mistake, they could just pay for their error as a goodwill gesture instead but I've never, ever had that here).

I guess we'll agree to disagree.

Are the decals original ? Numerous firms offer this service.

Re: Garage caused damage to decals on my car

To be dishonest you need to be aware it is you fault. Swiss learn very young that you need to take full ownership of your own mistake - selber schuld. Hence they learn at a young age to try as long as possible to deny having made a mistake. Once they are proven without a doubt they are wrong they usually own up to the mistake immediately.

Thus they are not dishonest because they are in denial.

So people in court here always plead not-guilty?

Must be great being a judge here - quite hard work one would think.

Isnít the thread basically about customer service?

The garage has all but admitted the mistake, if I understand the story correctly, so now itís just down to whether the OP can find a workable and satisfactory solution.

OP - is there any development?

Re: Garage caused damage to decals on my car

I find this entire thing a bit bizarre. I would have thought, being a Mini dealership, they would have corrected this without question. The labour and parts to replace these decals shouldn't be that costly. If this was my BMW dealership, this conversation would not be happening, guaranteed.

I would second any opinion on letting your insurance deal with this.
