Z plates and Swiss insurance?

Hi all,

I recently arrived to Switzerland to work here for 10 months (L permit holder). I have a spanish car with spanish plates owned for less than 6 months, meaning I need to pay VAT. As im not sure how long I will stay here for and if my contract will be extended, I rather postpone paying those duties BUT I do need swiss plates in order to get swiss car insurance as my spanish insurance will soon stop covering me for having moved abroad.

Ive heard about the possibility of getting Z plates which would solve the "vat postponement" issue but I would still have problems looking for an insurance that would cover those plates I guess? Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks so much in advance!

They all will cover it, just expect to pay a lot more.

Thanks for your reply. Currently talking to Allianz as my company has an agreement with them but they DO NOT cover Z plates or foreign plates for a period of more than 3 months...

Try AXA.

Somebody sure does it, as you can have them for up to two years.
