High way vignette removal

Hi folks👋,

End of the year is approaching and with it the time to replace the highway vignette.
Any tips on how to easily remove that sticky sticker out of the windshield??
A DIY tutorial would be awesome..

Many thanks 😊

Re: High way vignette removal

We got a special scrapper from a petrol station I think, which brings it all off, then just remove glue residue with some glass cleaner.

Re: High way vignette removal

If the temperatures are well above freezing, then a hair dryer is your best friend.

The vignette comes off in one piece and can be restuck in another car, if you wish.

yeah but it's in Swiss-German. One would think that them are the ones who have sussed it out by now

OP: Razor blade. If you have thingy to clean your ceran stove it's the same yet a bit more comfortable (and safer for your fingers).

I just use the mandatory Swiss pocket knife (Amazed it doesn't have a vignette removal tool yet) and spit! My spit only!

Ahhh, yeah, I was taught about that a while ago on EF. But forgot about that feature again.

True, how come it doesn't? Victorinox is losing it's touch!

Re: High way vignette removal

Bit late but - the secret is to attach the vignette on your jeans first (or anywhere else where it can pick up a bit of fluff). The result is it won‘t stick so firmly and be easier to remove...

Re: High way vignette removal

No rush really. The thing is valid until January 31st - still many chances for loads of snow and to crash the car. The vignette is not transferable to the new car.

Except maybe with AbFab's system.

Re: High way vignette removal

There's a guy on the Internet who does vintage PC restoration, he says (and shows on video) that WD40 is effective to remove glue residuals. I tried once on a glass jar and it worked.

One has to let it rest for a few minutes, so I don't know how much it works on a windscreen...

Video link bellow:

https://www.facebook.com/vizartwerbe...4648401499631/

In home environment with tools you have around the house:

1) Heat the sticker with hair dryer. ( in the video I use heat gun )
2) When sticker is softer, remove slowly using your finger nails.
3) Clean remaining glue on the glass with nail remover / zippo lighter/ glue and tar remover etc...

You risk getting fined for re-sticking it to another car.

Re: High way vignette removal

Thx to all..

Summing up all the advises I guess I'll try the hair drier + nail polish removal trick.
Ah, and very important, I'll stick next year's vignette on my pants a few times before sticking it to the window. Like that, I prevent the same problem next year and much more important I won't comeback with the same question to the forum in 2020
