sungtae has slipped a little
Is this a fair amount?

I replaced the following two parts at an auto repair shop and was charged 700 CHF.
Is this a fair amount?
I think they asked me too much.

The links below are the auto parts they replaced.

40.28 CHF

throttle body

Re: Is this a fair amount?

How many hours' labour do you think it took your repair shop mechanic to remove and replace those parts for you?

Sounds about right, couple hour work at Chf 160/hour + parts and incidentals

I pay 80/hr at an independant garage, 160 at a dealer sounds normal.

You would probably pay more for the parts from a main dealer or any dealer.

Re: Is this a fair amount?

It’s not clear to me. Did you buy those exact parts and then we’re charged an additional 700chf to install them? Or are the parts and names just for reference so people can understand?

Exactly. Surely you asked for a quote?
We always tell our garage not to do anything with out telling us how much it will be.... and if its going to be more expensive once they get started, they have to call us!

My garage called and told me months ago in the last service that my car's battery failed their test. I told em to not replace it. No problems since either. Now wonder if the brake disks really needed replacing. Probably not.

Easy, take it to TCS and have them check. Mine were 0.2mm above the limit, so I am fine until the next MFK!

Should take another 6k km to get down to the limit based on usage rate, and I rarely use it, so I don't forsee a problem.

Most work carried out in addition to standard service schedule probably falls into that category. I was told things needed doing for an MFK & passed 2 further MFK's & 150,000 KM's without doing said work.

I generally change discs at around 200,000 KM, in CH the main dealer will try to change with each set of brake pads so 3-5 times more often. Pads & Discs are dirt cheap & take 15-20 mins a wheel to change, a main dealer will want 1-2K per set. I will link a thread from a few years ago

The dealer informed me that the rotors were within limit, but claimed that they often get warped and with new brake pads an uncanny screaching could result. So I gave in to their preventive maintenace attitude.
But!
Now witnessing that a new battery was not necessary. I now wonder about other replacement parts.

I call total BS on that, no problem changing them next year, chance of screeching is close to zero & it's the anti screech plates not the discs They probably come in the kit from a main dealer with the pads, NOT the discs!

When you get warped discs, you get a crazy judder when braking, but never had a screech.
