Help! International driving license anzeige

Hi everyone,

Hope you're all well!
My colleague received an invitation to attend the police station.
He's new in Switzerland and has an international driving license. It seems he was driving well above the speed limit.
Can someone let us know how bad can it really get for him?
He's very new in Switzerland, 2 months. So his driving is still somewhat based on his origin country (which basically doesn't care if someone follows the law or not).

Image attached.

Thank you and much appreciated

Can you specify what more details are needed?
We believe it was in either an 80 zone or a 50 zone.

Re: Help! International driving license anzeige

Depends on how many km/h over the limit he was doing. A work colleague was doing 50kmh in a 20kmh zone and had to attend the police station - he had to pay a CHF1450 fine in the station.

https://www.ch.ch/en/driving-over-speed-limit/

To have received a summons means he is not in one of the minor categories. If it was only a small amount over the limit he would have just received a simple speeding ticket in the post

Re: Help! International driving license anzeige

Here's a big thread with the fines:
https://www.englishforum.ch/transpor...law-fines.html

The letter says more than 15 kph over, which means if you take into account the tolerance they allow, the reading was at least 20 over.

Hope your friend has a decent-sized bank account.

Do you think he will get that on the Strafregister? Its his first ever offence and hasn't been in Switzerland a long time.

Re: Help! International driving license anzeige

Not sure, but if he does, I'll probably switch him to being a best friend of mine
Do you think he'll get that on his Strafregister? Do they take pictures for proof? There's also the debate of if it was him or his brother (who left back home today).

Re: Help! International driving license anzeige

Letter says more than 15 to fast, so it must have been inside town. (Outside town 20, Autobahn 25).

Meaning he'll get a notation in the criminal records if he drove more than 25 to fast (And if so also a minimum of 3 months no driving and a nice 4 figure sum to pay up)

What convenient coincidence . The debate will be easily solved by the nice high resolution picture the police keeps just for such familial debates. Advise your colleague to think carefully before answering.

But it doesn't seem like it was a radar that caught him, as he did not see any red or flashing light.

Many of the portable cameras they set up around here are well-camouflaged and don't have a bright flash.

Re: Help! International driving license anzeige

Heard a story from my boss on the speeding "lights" in a new tunnel, apparently so called black lights.

Seems everybody thought they were not functioning so they happily raced through the tunnel for several days until they got mail.....

Oh that sucks. On the other hand they already have non-flashing speed cams for years.

I lost my appetite for speeding in this country. Just don't want to explain to my wife that we are 3 months without a car and have to pay a sum that also would have gotten us at the beach in Tenerife just for some fun and to save a minute.

Re: Help! International driving license anzeige

IIRC an International Driving License is not a license per se, but a translation of his/her national driving license.

It may be helpful to the police but it doesn’t serve any purpose other than translating the original.

They could seize her national permit. When they do this the usually return it to the nearest embassy/ consulate. In the meantime S/He cannot drive in CH.
