Confused with Motorbike licence

Hello to everyone,

I am 26 and I would like to take the unrestricted motorbike licence here in Switzerland that I still can without having to get a smaller bike at first.
I have already a Swiss B driving licence (converted my EU licence), but I am confused how this is working.

I read that you have to take a Basic course (4h) and then do you actually buy/rent a bike and train yourself with the L plate until the examination?

Can you directly without experience go and buy for example a 600cc motorbike?

Could someone give me a step-by-step explanation?

Thanks!!

Re: Confused with Motorbike licence

It works as follows:
1. do the eye test
2. request for learning license
3. buy a motor cycle
4. organize the basic course
5. drive and practice a lot (and enjoy summer with a motor cycle)
6. apply for the practical exam within a year of (2)

My first drive ever with a motor cycle was from home to the basic course. That was scary. You could also organize a lesson or two but that is optional.

Re: Confused with Motorbike licence

technically:

1. get the L permit
2. Within 4 months of issuance do 12h of basic courses in 3x 4h segments. 1 is boring, 2 is ok, 3 is only riding
3. Within a year of your last course go take the practical exam

Enjoy 2-wheel life which in Switzerland is quite awesome

If you never ever rode on a bike before, take a biker friend. If none are available, you can actually talk to a driving school, and they'll probably help you out.

Yes, in fact you don't even need a license or permit.

Why must you be so obtuse? Of course he can buy whatever he wants, nothing to do with having a licence, but it's clear that he wants to know about being allowed to ride, not just own one.
