I eliminated this problem. I drive with winter tires all year round!

Re: When should I switch my winter tires for summer tires?

For those of you on La Côte, Viquerat Pneumatiques
(Route de Saint-Cergue * 297, 1260 Nyon) has now reopened. They are doing tire (tyre) changes, by appointment only.

I have used them before and have already booked our cars for Tuesday. Their pricing is average for the Nyon area.

Quote:
*This is close to the Paleo site.

Ummm, maybe when the Corona virus is over, and companies are allowed to do it for you? Otherwise do it yourself (you are very late btw). It’s not rocket science.

Very late for what? It was cold last week. I'm going to leave it another week seeing as the temperatures are going back to max 15 for next week.

Re: When should I switch my winter tires for summer tires?

Well we have tires on wheels for one car, and tires not on wheels for the other.

I could do the first but not the second. It is hard work and I think I am helping the economy by paying a local business to do something I really don’t want to do.

I don't mean to pick a fight, but I don't really get any part of your post. Garages and tyre centres are allowed to operate, always have been. It seems to me that bowlie is recommending such a business.

Doing it yourself is not exactly a cinch for those who have only one set of rims (my case for two of my cars), so the tyres have to be removed and replaced. My lungs aren't that good.

The rule of thumb for winter tyres is O bis O... Oktober bis Ostern; October to Easter. Two days before Easter, it's hardly very late right now to change tyres.

I agree though, it's not rocket science. I'm pretty sure the tyre guys I go to don't even have PhDs.

Well. I‘ve been informed. Didn‘t know that garages can still operate. Thank you.
My tap broke yesterday, do you know if sanitär people are still allowed to do house calls?

Why the groans?
I thought this was meant to be a light hearted thread.
Does it really make a difference if you change a month earlier or later? A trip into the mountains or a sudden change in the weather can mean you have the "wrong" tyres mounted - just adjust your driving style. On ice and snow you are going to need chains or studded tyres anyway.
As to insurance issues, I suspect this is an urban myth, at least with regard to winter tyres in summer, the other way round may be more problematical. Any concrete examples out there?

Yup. We had them out last week from both the Stadt services and privately via our landlord. Sanitation is critical at this time.

During the first week of the shutdown I checked the above company’s site and read there that they were closed due to the virus. When I got an email on Friday saying they were taking bookings on a reservation only basis I booked two appointments. I also shared the information here thinking it would be helpful to the EF crowd, at least on la côte.

SwissMeteo is not forecasting sub +5 temperatures for the next week. I think it’s a good time to do this. It will improve my petrol kilometerage, reduce noise and reduce wear on the softer winter tyres (tires).

Of course YMMV and your garages may have been open throughout so this wasn’t news to you. If I have wasted your time, or brain cells, I apologise.

LOL.
Actually even if my lungs were that good , do these people drive on wobbly wheels after? How could the balancing be done at home?
Let me know if there is a way for that, anybody.

My winter tire has grown alarmingly over the last weeks. Best time to change to summer attire will be after some serious consideration of lettuce and a thorough review of gym membership options
