Change tyres? Why?
Please note the correct spelling

Why the groans?
I thought this was meant to be a light hearted thread.
It was only a light-hearted groan, don't take it personally. Pointing out regional spelling differences just gets a bit tyring.

My winter tire has grown alarmingly over the last weeks. Best time to change to summer attire will be after some serious consideration of lettuce and a thorough review of gym membership options
You seem to have a rooftop flat, you could start bungee jumping?

No problem. It is ironic that the longest lasting trace of the puritans is the medieval spelling found in american english - not sure that tire fits in that category though.

All such services are going on as usual.
Tbh honest, not sure if I want anyone ‘unknown’ in my apartment right now. They could be carrying all kinds of things. And I’m apparently in the high-risk category.

Daughter’s boyfriends flatmate is a brick-layer, and they are currently only allowed to go to low-risk households.

Don't tire go into the category of nite-club?

That's always the case. The two meter distance definitely helps.

changed them today, respecting the O to O rule to the letter (heh) this year.

LOL.
Actually even if my lungs were that good , do these people drive on wobbly wheels after? How could the balancing be done at home?
Let me know if there is a way for that, anybody.
everybody I know has 2 sets of rims. I mean, at least the cheapo black ones for the winter tires... tbh replacing the tires on the rims 2 times a year doesn't seem that good for the tire or cost-efficient to me.

Hi, happy to introduce myself. Now you know someone who has one set of rims and two sets of tyres (twice over, for two cars in total). The main reasons are 1) the quotes for OEM rims (from the car manufacturers) were stunningly impressive, in a bad way (many thousands of CHF), 2) cheapo rims of any colour really would not go with these cars, and 3) I'm too lazy or busy or something to go and find decently priced, good rims as a second set.

I forgot point 4) it would take a lot of semi-annual tyre change fees to exceed the cost of an extra set of rims, even cheapo rims. And I'd probably still get a garage to change the wheels anyway, for the reasons provided in 3).

You just need to own two cars of the same make, model and year, and a large crane with sturdy chains. If you lift both cars off the ground and the crane doesn't topple over, they should be balanced.

Also, you don't need to balance your wheels every time you change them, as long as you keep the same tyre on the wheel i.e. not as in my case). The balancing is for the wheel itself, taking into consideration the tyre, not for the wheel with respect to the car, if you get my drift. You only need to balance the wheels when you get new tyres, or if the weights get disturbed in some way.

If you have two full sets of rims and tyres (Räder), and your tyre dudes, PhD, have been charging you for balancing them when you change them, you should have a quiet word. Ask to see their doctoral degree certificates, for starters.

Do you mind sending them over? I have about 30 mineral water containers in the cellar I dread taking up the stairs to the 4th floor.

This thread could be a safe place for those posters to resume their knowledge divulgement on the usual topics of tire-rubber chemistry, what great drivers they are, how many motorcycles they own, etc.,.. etc.,..
Oooh! Awesome driver of a scooter here, as regrettably my wife needs the car for our 3 children.

If only I had paid more attention to the properties of rubber, when exploring chemistry.

Might have had fewer kids, more cars and be less tired. (tyred?).

And an other one here. I only have two sets of rims if they already came with the car. Would never bother investing even a cent in such a thing.

That was a long post, stating the obvious.

I'm very fussy about balance of wheels. I feel every tiny imbalance. And yes, I go back and have it done properly when it's not. My new garage does it perfectly the first time around now, which I'm grateful for.

I would have love to read Tom's post about how to balance tyres for 5 motorcycles and 2 cars using only a screwdriver.

Need a hammer. The bigger the better. Screwdrivers are for screwing.

19inch rotor alloys on my 2yr old Audi for the last 2yrs. I change tires, not alloys. All fine. don't see what the fuss is about.
