Re: Cancel Swiss flight or wait for them to cancel?

I have tickets for next week via lastminute.com with Swiss and so far it shows as active and confirmed although when I go to the Swiss website the flight is cancelled.

Anyone who used LM to tell us what they did? I'll wait a few more days before calling lastminute.com.

Here's the FAQ page which might help. A quick glance says it might take some time to get your money back:

Swiss cancelled (without notification) my flights on the weekend of April 24. Flights for May 8th are still ok apparently.

Yep, same here. Can´t understand why there is no email notification, should be simple to connect that to any cancellation.

Sening messages to them on FB gets you at least a quick reply.

Re: Cancel Swiss flight or wait for them to cancel?

I received the message below, not offering a refund it seems:

Your rebooking options

Due to the continuing coronavirus situation, SWISS will have to further adjust its flight offerings and make further flight cancellations. We are very sorry that your flight is also affected today.

In light of the current situation, SWISS is offering flexible rebooking options for all ticket fares. You may simply keep your ticket and rebook at no extra charge until 31 August 2020 as soon as you have decided on a new travel date – even after the original date of flight. You may find further information here.

In addition, SWISS is now offering a discount of CHF 50 for each rebooking with a travel date within the year 2020. Even if you do not yet know when you would like to rebook your flight, you may already secure your discount today: FlightVoucher

Should you have booked your ticket with a travel agency, we kindly ask you to contact them directly. They will be happy to assist with your rebooking enquiry.

Re: Cancel Swiss flight or wait for them to cancel?

I've booked a BA flight home to Texas from Heathrow beginning of next month. BA is offering vouchers for future travel, but since I booked through Expedia, they informed me by email that I do not qualify.

Fair enough...with my Expedia booking, I purchased insurance that covers 100% of the flight costs if my flight is cancelled. Given that BA has grounded their staff until the end of May, I am assuming my flight will be cancelled. Does anybody have an idea of how soon in advance they will announce the flight cancellation so I can file my claim? Can't get anyone on the phone for BA or Expedia.

Thanks

Re: Cancel Swiss flight or wait for them to cancel?

My BA flight at the end of May has been cancelled already. The email stating this had no mention of getting a refund, but by law you are allowed one, you just need to ring up and pray you can get through. I have tried but no luck just yet.

Also, my UBS Travel Insurance Plus by Axa have told me nothing is covered. cant claim for anything. My 2 bits of advice would be to call the airline before you accept anything online, you will NOT get a refund for any air travel via online methods. 2) double check your travel insurance.

Really? How so? Is flight cancellation not covered as part of the insurance? I double checked and my insurance that I bought with the flight does cover it. Since my flight is at the beginning of May, I wonder why it hasn't been cancelled yet then... Oh well, best to keep trying by phone as you recommended. Thanks!

Force majeure? Maybe that is not covered.

Yes flight cancellations are covered but not if it outside of the airlines control. The T&Cs specifically mention pandemics in my insurance. Lots on the internet about this and how nearly all insurance coverage is basically useless at the moment. I would double check your insurance as it might have a similar clause.

Your flight should have been cancelled by now. Unless it is a route that still has flights running, I don’t think “all” flights are grounded are they ? Have you checked if they are still flying on your route?

Re: Cancel Swiss flight or wait for them to cancel?

Yes I just checked, the only one that has been cancelled is the connecting flight on the way back from Heathrow to Zurich.

Oh dear...this is really unfortunate. Didn't realise the virus would exempt them from insurance coverage. Really wish I didn't buy it through a travel site, at least I'd have a voucher then and not lose out on 2 grand. I guess there's no point in stressing with the state of the world right now.

Will keep trying to call Expedia...thanks for the tips and good luck to everyone with their cancelled flights. I will report back on the outcome.

Re: Cancel Swiss flight or wait for them to cancel?

Was amazed today. My flight connections (not Swiss) were refunded through my booking via Ebookers. I hadn’t even request a refund (was waiting until travel restrictions were extended until my travel time starting in May).

Now waiting for Swiss to do the same.

Bravo Ebookers.com

Re: Cancel Swiss flight or wait for them to cancel?

Hi all,

To follow up, I received a SMS from Expedia. Quite happy about it:

“A message from Expedia: Your flight to DFW on 2020-05-09 Itinerary .... qualifies for free cancellation up to 24 hours before you travel. Reply with 1 and we'll cancel it automatically for you-no need to call to confirm. You will receive a credit for future flights with the airline. If you don't wish to cancel or have already canceled, no further action is needed. Thank you.”

Personally, I'd ask about a refund instead of a credit.

Yes, but I bought a non-refundable flight, so it might be pushing it. Also, I’m quite bad about going home, so this will make sure that I do.
