Edit: it seems to be online again:

https://www.swiss.com/ch/EN/customer-support/refund#

we submitted our request for refund on June 12 using the online form. (didn't even bother trying to call)
And today we received confirmation of full refund (on credit card) It took a while but at least we did receive it (for flight april 2020, cancelled due to covid)
I thought it would be refused and/or they would give us vouchers so all in all we are happy.

ours was accurate (it was a return leg of the flight) odd they had discrepencies in yours? was it due to exchange rate differences?

No, all flights were in CHF. No idea what happened, am waiting for an answer on the short payment (probably the srvice fee was deducted), the others were correct up to the last Rappen.

Well, you were right Every time I call Swiss is another promise of getting refunded in less than 2 weeks. Has anyone started a betriebung against Swiss? What bothers me is they got tax money from us all, and if I were the debtor the big company would give no break at all.

Re: Cancel Swiss flight or wait for them to cancel?

Not really a refund topic but still 'funny'. Swiss has now this "we rebook any fare multiple times for free" policy. Unfortunately I had to try how it works in practice: I booked a weekend trip to Budapest, the flight got cancelled, I've been rebooked for the next day. In the meantime Hungary closed its borders, so I wanted to postpone the whole trip by a month or two. Guess what! Cannot be done without a fee, because the "same fare is not available this year anymore".
Sounds like some marketing guys did great job again. Sadly not for the passengers.

Thought they made it fairly clear that there can be extra cost if your booking class is not available? Had to rebook a couple of flights and that cost me 85 Rappen

If you read the fine print, it's likely they're not actually charging a fee. They're making you pay the difference in the fare price. Still feels the same to you as a consumer, but they're right on a technicality.

Forgot to update this but I finally got a refund last week for my flight that Swiss cancelled in late March.

Did you request the refund by phone or by email? Did Swiss make any contact with you or did they just do the refund?

We made the request by phone but received no further contact, so I re-submitted the request using the online form in case our phone message was ignored/lost. Still no response - the other airline we were flying with has issued refund. Flight cancelled was beg May - so based on your timeline we've another month to wait....

Re: Cancel Swiss flight or wait for them to cancel?

We submitted refund requests using the online form on July 8th, for 3 flights spanning March to June. We had no contact from Swiss, until we received emails saying the flights were refunded on August 31st.

Thanks, it seems 2 months is normal. I've been waiting for a month now. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I don't want to wait for the bankruptcy of Swiss/Lufthansa. That will make the recovery harder.

We made the request by phone but received no further contact, so I re-submitted the request using the online form in case our phone message was ignored/lost.
When you make the refund request over the phone, the booking agent puts notes of the call in the booking, removes the flight segments to release the seats on their system, and sends it to the refund queue. The refunds are then actioned by the admin team. Even under normal circumstances, it can take a while to action. We got our refunds 2 months after making the request over the phone, which I think is more than reasonable under the circumstances.

Please be aware that the admin side of refunding a flight booking is a role which requires considerable training, so the airlines can't just draft extra people in to process the backlog at a moment's notice.

yes, sounds like an extremely difficult process for fully unused tickets. There is no way to automate such a thing in 2020

I will add to the sarcasm. Swiss cancelled our flight at a point in time it was pretty clear no transatlantic flights would be rebooked in their timeframe.

How hard is it to refund the money in this case? That happens with other online buying processes. Or if cannot automate just in case, have a button in the email for "reimburse me" "I will rebook".

This is just Swiss holding on to cash for dear life.

Think of it as Crowdfunding an airline... so that it's still there in future when you want to fly and are allowed.

I've waited 3 months for a refund, another came within 2.

yeah, but I'm pissed enough if it's being crowdfunded from taxpayers' money. At least for my own, let me decide if I want to lend it for free.
