Need to dump car Geneva - Urgent

I'm leaving Geneva - retired at the end of Feb and apartment rental contract up at the end of March. I have a problem with getting rid of my car. It's not worth anything but an exporter said he would give me a few pennies for it. I've left it too late and now no-one is interested. My garage who said they'd take it off my hands for nothing is closed. I want to catch a flight ASAP back to the UK (there's a BA one tomorrow evening) to keep my head down and hide away in my new house for a few weeks.
Any suggestions? I don't mind paying for parking and coming back and sorting it out at a later date - I'll have some other things to sort out anyway.

I would take a long term parking in order to avoid being pushed into a fire sale. That said, no idea on how long the border restrictions may apply so important that you are mindful of the same. All the best.

Why not advertise it here or autoscout with a fire sale price, I am sure there are plenty of bargain seekers who would snap it up.

Could you ask your current landlord if he has a spare parking space somewhere? He knows you alreay so might be willing to rent it to you for a good / reasonable Price. it's an unusual time so might be worth asking.

Insurance, taxes, parking and this could last some months.

Is taking the few pennies and be done with really not a great idea?

Maybe park it on their forecourt, leave the grey card in the glove compartment, write a note telling them to dispose of it (as already discussed) with a billing address for you. Lock the car and put the keys in their letterbox.

I know this is Neuchatel and not Geneva, but I'm sure Geneva will have something similar?

Or stick it on autoscout for 1CHF.

Thanks for the suggestions. Fire sale is not an issue. It is only fit for export anyway - 20yrs old, no expertise. I just want to avoid too much liability.

I took a couple of cars to a scrap yard in the UK in the past. Is that an option here?

That was going to be my suggestion too. If they've already agreed to dispose of it, seems reasonable to take it to the garage as long as you can park it out of the way. And email the garage plus leave a phone message.

Re: Need to dump car Geneva - Urgent

We use Anibis or Ricardo (the latter requires membership though). On Anibis the takers are usually Albanians/Bosnians/Serbians who export cars and the latter are garagistes that buy vehicles for parts... so no high prices. Nevertheless under the circumstances, there might not be that many takers. Good luck!

Did OP return number plates? (Doubt it, as he's still able to drive it), having the grey car-papers stamped invalid is most likely a problem just now, insurance runs as long as OP has the number plates.

I'd also park it at the garage who agreed to handle this for him. They will have to do all the deregistering for him as well, so a bottle of wine (or better whiskey ) left in the car would be a nice gesture.
And yes, contact infos in case of problems or questions. Garages usually have a letter box to drop the keys in.

You could contact your local fire station. I'm guessing that they are getting bored at the moment. They are usually grateful for a wreck to cut the roof off of,when they do an exercise

No fire department practices will take place while the Corona thing is still ravaging. This is to ensure a healthy squad in case an emergency should ensue.
