This is like... the direct opposite of a train gold heist.

Well, duh!

Re: Swiss search for owner of gold haul left on train

If I left three to four kilos of gold on the train, I'd probably have noticed quite quickly and registered a claim at the lost property. Maybe the owner was in some sort of hurry.

You can do a search here of the SBB lost property, but there does not appear to be a specific category for gold bullion:

It was last October. Most likely it was stolen, otherwise surely an honest owner would have come forward by now!

Indeed, maybe this person was carrying 10 kilos and had to leave 3 behind to run faster

Robbery 101: Escape is the most important part of any heist
I'm not sure though if taking the train is a good escape plan.

Maybe the 'owner' is no more after this boss didn't believe his 'left if on the train' story...

Not necessarily stolen, also quite possible that the owner had not declared said gold in their tax return...

That would not be an issue in CH, mere slap on the wrist, up until a couple of years ago unlimited tax evasion was not a criminal offence, more recently only 300k plus a year of evasion became a criminal matter. The wealth tax is peanuts, I suspect the owner is no longer capable of remembering AKA dead.

Re: Swiss search for owner of gold haul left on train

I could also imagine that anyone who did now submit a lost property claim to the SBB for 3+ Kg. of gold bullion, with details corresponding roughly to that published in the media, would find such a claim subject to a bit more scrutiny than that say of a claim for a lost black umbrella.

Only if it should be assessed as wealth tax. If it was earnings, however, say a monthly salary which dropped through a hole in the pocket, that could be c. CHF50,000 (assuming 30% tax rate)

So just a slap on the wrists, less if over multiple years!
