Traveling (driving) around Europe this July - with US passport

After doing some research, I still haven't been able to find a clear answer to my question - so I'll post it here.

This July I plan to drive around Europe traveling from Switzerland to France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, .... and a few other places.

In the car there will be a person with a USA passport (Swiss resident - with Swiss residence card) .

Is there any reason I should think this is not a good idea.

During my research I found that this is not going to be a problem, then I heard on the news that the EU "may" not allow US tourists into the EU this summer.

I did a similar trip last year and want to recreate it.

My worst case scenario thought I have is ---- at an EU border, the border patrol to turn away the US passport person saying the EU does not allow US tourists at this time.

By US tourist they mean tourists arriving from the US, not US citizens who are arriving from other EU/Schengen countries.

The Media haven't been clear or correct about who they say will be "banned". Currently just about every non-EU+ state is banned, and the EU+ are discussing which countries should come off the list.

As the US has a much higher infection rate than the EU+ AND because it still bans Europeans from their territory the EU+ is not considering allowing 'Americans' back in, for the time being.

By this they mean residents of the US. A Canadian, or a Fijian living in the US would be equally covered by these rules. Always take your permit with you and present it, without being asked, with your passport.

As long as you stay in the Schengen area I doubt you would even be asked for your papers. Border crossings are mostly back to pre-C19 processes.

I think you might get turned away at one or more borders. The different countries will interpret the travel ban differently.

What matters is your residency and from where you travel, what passport you hold is completely irrelevant.

Re: Traveling (driving) around Europe this July - with US passport

Just for info - sharing personal experience, shortly after 15th June I drove to Prague, stayed over a week and returned late last week, no controls at all in either direction at CH-DE-CZ borders.

I also met a UK based Slovakian guy in a service station (driving a UK registered car) near Nuremberg who'd driven from Bristol and had no controls at UK-French-Belgian-German borders (he'd had a negative test before setting out).
